Celebration is a thing of joy

For a couple of weeks, I have been extremely busy with occasions here and there. I have been to a friend's wedding. If you are following my page you will be sure to have seen pictures I posted in my previous blog about the wedding I attended. Just this last weekend, I had to attend another friend's wedding, i travelled for about 1000 kilometres, and it was fun but at the same time tiring. This time around I didn’t go along since the place was far. I went with a couple of friends who were also a friend of the groom.

Before we embarked on the journey, we had all agreed to pay a certain amount of money for fuel so that it would ease our journey to the locations instead of boarding public transport that might not take us to our destination directly. It wouldn't have been easy if we had to board three to four buses before we got to our destination. Also, we didn’t have that leisure time. We had to travel a bit late on Friday since many of us went to work in the morning. We left Lagos at exactly 2 pm and got to our destination around 8:30 pm. On that day it rained cat and dog. We got to Osogbo and headed straight to the hotel we had earlier booked with the help of the bride's family. We wouldn't have felt the pain of travelling if we had slept on time as we must be at the venue as early as possible the next morning. However, the groom had not gotten the required number of items for her in law and in our culture, all the items listed for the traditional wedding must be complete without leaving out any items whether big or small.

By the time we got to Osogbo, the groom had not gotten yam and fruit baskets. We had to follow the groom to the market and assist with the purchase of the yam and also the fruits. The groom was in a state of dilemma as he had a lot of things he needed to put in place before the occasion and he didn't have that much time. Fortunately, we got the items and headed straight to our hotel but we couldn't hold the bachelor Eve's party due to time constraints.

On Saturday, they started with the church service which was followed by engagement and then the reception. We were told that the church service was strictly for the immediate family of the bride and the groom so no external people were needed except the best man and the bridesmaid.

We were delighted that the wedding was a success even though the devil wanted to have his way but he was disappointed in the end. The family of the groom had wanted to leave the venue before the end of the occasion because of the disagreement that occurred between the two families which boarded down to the refreshments.

I learnt one lesson from the incident. The bride and the groom's families should prepare their food and drink separately to avoid quarrels.
