The Making of a Man

Today is International Father’s Day. Respect to all the great fathers and responsible men out there. It is not easy being a man, as it comes with a load of responsibilities that may even make you want to give up at times.

A boy child grows up to become a man in the future, and it is very important that he is cared for and not abandoned or left to survive on his own when he needs support while growing into adulthood.

Society is often not kind to men, as they are expected to be strong enough and figure life out for themselves. Life, however, often treats people according to how they have been prepared for it. Most of the time, a male child is not attended to in the same way as his female counterpart because people believe boys are stronger and can cope on their own.

When men are left alone to survive by themselves, they are often left with no choice but to find their own ways of making it in life, whether legally or illegally. That is why a large percentage of crimes committed daily are perpetrated by men. Visit any prison and see the number of men incarcerated for different types of crimes. Many of them carry the burden of keeping their families alive by working tirelessly to provide for them.

Today should be a day to celebrate fathers and responsible men, making them feel loved, appreciated, and respected. It should also remind us that they should never go through life without love or be looked down upon.

Men are often expected to be the pillars that others lean on. However, when that pillar is not properly strengthened during its formative years, it can eventually break into pieces, leaving destruction and hopelessness behind.
