When Anything Goes

In the society we live in today, a lot of things have gone wrong, many of which are being normalised because people no longer see anything wrong with them. The question then is: because some people do not see anything wrong with a situation, does that automatically make it proper? Sadly, we now live in a society where “anything goes.”

Recently, there has been an uproar on Facebook about a lady, I can’t clearly remember whether she is from Zimbabwe or South Africa, who openly displayed her vagina in a video for people to see. While many people condemned her actions, others were seen supporting her, claiming that it is her “pussy” and she can do whatever she wants with it. Interestingly, most of her followers are said to be men. I also heard that within a month, she amassed about one billion views and made

over a thousand dollars within that same period.

This development angered many Facebook content creators, who kicked against it, believing she made a lot of money without putting in any meaningful effort. Some even thought that this was the reason her account was eventually flagged. However, that was not the real reason. The major issue was that she was considered a bad influence on the younger ones. Although some people argued that her page was meant for adults and that there was nothing wrong with such content, the truth is that Facebook is not meant for explicit content since it is a public platform. Teenagers can easily come across such videos and may be influenced to copy her actions. The most annoying part is that she was also openly displaying how much money she made from it.

As a result, many other content creators are now considering emulating her actions just to gain views and make money.

It is truly sad to see all these things happening, especially when it appeared that nothing was initially done about it by Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook. Many users were enraged, pointing out that their accounts often get restricted for minor issues, yet content that promotes promiscuity seems to be tolerated or even promoted. While it is true that everyone has the right to their opinion and to live their life as they choose, once an action violates community standards, something should be done about it.

If she wanted to create such content, she ought to have used adult platforms instead. Another disturbing aspect is that many people find her content appealing, most of whom are men. This speaks volumes about the kind of society we live in, one where people glorify rubbish and things that add no real value to their lives. Someone even remarked that if it were a sermon, many people would simply ignore it and scroll past.
