Amid the tremendous challenges faced by the Solana blockchain project this year including several network outages, Solana Mobile developers who believe that web3's future is not desktop, remain committed to building the future of Web3 on mobile.

Recall that the team began the development of the first-ever blockchain-related mobile device dubbed Saga, earlier this year. The introduction of the Solana-powered mobile device is to enable use cases and experiences that were only available on desktops via the integration of a cutting-edge hardware and software platform.

Although Saga is web3-focused, it will support both the Solana dApp Store and the Google Play Store, given that it is fully Google Mobile Services enabled. It remains valid that Saga is expected to be ready and available for shipping in early 2023, to the supported countries. It is said that Saga will be available in the US, CA, EU, UK, CH, AU, and NZ at the initial release.

According to the Solana Mobile team, the final purchase price for Saga is $1000 but interested people will have to pre-order and join the waitlist, by making an initial refundable fee of $100 USDC.

Once this initial payment is completed, you will be added to the waitlist and be subsequently notified to complete your order, the team disclosed. It is worth noting that the deposit amount will be deducted from the final purchase price of the Saga device.

What is Saga DVT-1?

To enhance the process of building web3 on mobile, Solana Mobile launched Saga DVT-1 unit shipping today as announced on December 9.

To note, Saga DVT-1 is a developer unit program, designed to give builders a head start on building on Solana Mobile in a pre-production environment. Per the update, developers who are selected for DVT-1 will get early access to a phone to start building the mobile web3 projects of the future.

DVT-1 is Saga’s developer unit program that gives builders access to an early, pre-production version of Saga to build, test, and iterate on real hardware.ref

According to the Solana Mobile team, the Saga DVT-1 units are for a limited group of builders who are interested in building on the Solana Mobile Stack, including the Seed Vault, Mobile Wallet Adapter, and for the Solana dApp Store.

It bears mentioning that a DVT-1 unit costs $1,000 and DVT-1 holders will be eligible to exchange their dev units for production units free of charge when Saga launches in 2023.
