Never give up on weaving :)

IMG_8335.jpg

I never give up on weaving! But there are times that I weave a lot and times that my hands are so busy with our farm work that I don't even dare to think about using them for a different purpose :)

I just saw the post about the new NeedleWorkMonday community challenge and it ringed a bell! These last months I am thinking of how I can balance things better, what I really want to do and how to make it happen and there is no need to say that textile projects are on top of my list. So, now I am triggered to be more specific on this and honest to myself.
I believe in synchronicity and I love how this whole project resonates with my thoughts :)

As for now, the olive harvesting period has come to an end and pruning is our main activity these days. So, let me take you a couple of months back when I was weaving constantly and haven't shown you some of my wefts yet.

It was an intense period and I had to deliver some pieces to a shop. Honestly, I couldn't be happier. I don't live from weaving, but when it happens it feels really well :)

One of the main issues of that period was that I was focused so much on making that I was forgetting to take photos! Also, I prefer working at night and the light was not ideal for photo shooting...

Here is the making of of a necklace that I really like.

IMG_8266.jpg

IMG_8269.jpg

It's all cotton, apart from the thicker U-shaped yarn (I wonder if there is a word for it) that is jute wrapped by cotton yarn.

IMG_8274.jpg

I like the "empty space" in the middle. I was going for another pattern and when I saw it, I decided to keep it this way.

Did some more wrapping...

IMG_8292.jpg

And this is it!

IMG_8336.jpg

This is a necklace pattern that I make often in different variations. It all started with this one below, that is one of my all time favorite and I wear it a lot. This time it remained completely plain in the middle.

IMG_8279.jpg
Look how tired I look, but I am happy!

When I am tired but I don't want to stop working, I search for a fluffy yarn, preferably one that has it's own character like this one below that had different colors and volume and allows you to make something interesting without thinking too much :) It works like a meditation, very satisfying. And the look is usually very boho and light.

IMG_8312.jpg
The lighting was really poor, sorry for the low quality photos.

Speaking of boho, I made some quite bohemian looking necklaces that I enjoyed a lot.

I was surprised when I saw that there was only one photo of the making of. The first one and only. I got probably so absorbed. And I was also a bit stressed to deliver them on time.

Two variations:

It feels so good to be back to this community! Can't wait to make some new stuff! I thing I am in the mood of making something big on my loom soon!

All the pictures and the words are mine, apart from the pictures that I am in and are taken by @fotostef, but I did the editing so don't blame him :))

If you would like to know more about me this is my introduction post.

O wow, @traisto !! These are just sooo beautiful, and I have not thought of weaving for a long time: I did some in high school, and kind of hated and loved it - the teacher did too much dictating of how it should be - but the basic achievement was so satisfying, and your beautiful imagery reminds me of that wonderful feeling. Mmmmmmmm!

What a surprise! You know how to weave? Awesome! Maybe one day you will again!

the teacher did too much dictating of how it should be

So boring and frustrating! I can understand why you didn't want to do it, haha!

Thank you @clareartista!

These are the pieces we made! It was part of Arran Heritage Project on our island, bringing village children together with the elders of each vilage, and using old skills like weaving to connect present and past...

This is the square that I worked on.

I'm glad to be reminded about the weaving, as sometimes one negative moment can make us forget how much we loved a craft 🥰💖

Thank you so much Aishlinn! Would love to see your woven belts :) I was also thinking of making some and experimenting on card weaving, ideal for belts! xxxx

I'm starting to see what keeps you so busy. I really like what you do, I don't know how to weave but I think I know a little about what is beautiful. I wonder if you listen to music at night when you weed?

You are also good at writing, it was a pleasure to read, thank you!

Thank you so much dear @bluemoon!
I like to have music at the background, helps me keep concentrated. But sometimes when the weaving needs a lot of counting and constant focus, I prefer silence :)
You have some experience on weaving as a kid from your grandmother (am I right?) plus some good taste, so it means a lot to me :) Thank you once again!

I think I can't live without music and when I work music helps me a lot. It is true that I mean physical work that does not require too much concentration. And now, when I write, I have music in the background. On the other hand, I also love silence, so I understand well how you do it...

You got it right, my grandmother was a weaver, but simple things... Anyway, I was too young to care much.
With all pleasure and joy to hear good news from you!

You know I’m a big fan of your weaving posts! I’m so glad to see you post here this week. I’m sure we’ll be seeing you around for the bucket list adventure. 😊

I love very much these beautiful necklaces. Your designs are always so fresh and unique and each one gives a sense of peace and nature. The colors add a big part to the beauty of it all. I too love the empty space you left.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fluffy yarn quite like the one you’ve used, I really like it. It looks good for a necklace. I’m always wondering what those types of yarns would be good for.

Thank you for this beautiful post and sharing your thoughts. These types of post are what we’ve been missing and encouraging the community to shoot for. It’s full of personal touch, creativity, passion and soul ~

Happy to be here, too, dear @crosheille!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, this kind of feedback is what makes it worth. And there is always warm feedback in this community. I am really glad you feel this way about my small contribution this week :)
I would love to participate in the new challenge. There are so many things I want to do, I have to find a way to make it a bit realistic though. Or maybe not, haha! So many projects dancing in my head right now :))
As for fluffy yarns, I usually make them bracelets. I even enjoy wearing two or three of them on one hand. If you see that on me, that means I am so excited about sth, cause I rarely wear any jewelry on hands. But some days are special, and wearing this statement bracelets makes me feel good then, if it makes any sense :)

It’s always a pleasure visiting. I’m glad you feel that way about the community, that’s what we love to hear. 😊

Hahaha I totally get it. I was sitting here thinking about what I wanted to share and it’s so hard staying realistic because I want to try it all. 😄

Oh cool. Yes I understand that. I like wearing multiple bracelets. I have a set that was made for me but it seems I only wear them on certain occasions.

Glad we are many, haha! So much potential out there :)
At the same time, I know that prioritizing and making it clear always helps!

I have noticed that people that keep their hands busy making stuff, only wear them on certain occasions ;)

So creative! I love how these hobbies can be such a joy despite neglecting them for very long when....well....life happens. And then, like a long lost friend, you simply pick it up again and feel the satisfaction of creating

Thank you dear @buckaroobaby!
Truth is that I struggle to keep a balance between all the things I love to do, farming, weaving and so much more. But this is how it is, right? Constantly working on this :)
Hope you are well!
