Wool, geometry and balance.

IMG_6430.jpg

Wool has always been one of my favorites. Greek wool is rough, difficult to tolerate directly on your skin as a piece of clothing, at least for me, but perfect for other things like wall hangings, bookmarks, bags or pillows. It is stable and special, it has its own dynamic.

According to animism, everything is animated by spirits. I feel it strongly with wool, where the energy of the animal is present and works as a healing to me weaving with it and feeling it in my hands. Then it gives a beautiful energy to the place where you put it, especially if you like being surrounded by natural material.

The design started as a casual drawing on a paper, I liked it. It felt balanced, simple and playful. And I decided to weave it by using undyed wool - white sheep wool and brown sheep wool :)

Sometimes, the simpler the design is the harder it is to weave it. Diagonals are not an easy thing on the loom and if you are not very concentrated and count every line, it can get a bit curvy like mine. But this is also a reason I like it. It reflects my thoughts and my right to be lost in thoughts. It is what makes handmade things unique, you can't do the same mistakes, there is always space for different ones :)

Circles are also a hard thing when weaving. This is a small one, but heavy enough to push the bar down as it is falling :)

IMG_6466.jpg

This is the last shape and now Ι only have to do the final lines and to take it off. That's a few more hours of work...

IMG_6463.jpg

I think it will be nice hanging it from a branch, I hope I will find something to match nicely.

And while I am very patient during weaving, at the end I just can't wait to see it complete. Last lines are like a torture! This time I will have to wait. We are leaving for a short trip tomorrow and this one will have to wait for my return :)

Thank you so much @tamaralovelace!
Not many people would write a comment about the edges and the technique, so I guessed you know about weaving and yes, I was right! Just visited your blog, confirmed you are a fellow weaver and saw your beautiful looms and beautiful work! I am excited :)

Patience is a virtue to be cultivated.... it is within you. But it's ok, hahaha... it has its charm the curved, there where the thought turned in search of new solutions or paths. Or just an oversight, sometimes it makes a difference.

I have no idea what you're doing, I've never been to a weaving loom, but I feel there's something magical about it. Sounds? Smells?

Have a nice trip.

I loved the photos.

Thanks so much!

Yeap, exactly! I find it charming and I like to think of it as a type of identity for each piece and weaver :)

There's definitely some magic :)
It's mostly sounds, the feeling of the yarns and the wood, and a lot of moving, hands and feet on constant motion!

This is so pretty
It’s my first time seeing how this is done
For circles I think they are hard everywhere
From weaving to crocheting to sewing.
Anyway I love this.

Thanks so much @abenad!
You are so right, circles are always tricky :)

If I thought my jaw could drop just by seeing this post of yours... what amazingness is this, @traisto?!? Just when I thought about how you can do a diagonal you say it is tricky. I see it is. And even if it is curvy, it matches perfectly this simple, calming design. I love everything in this post 😍

Wow @traisto, it looks beautiful, in fact this whole post is. I loved your loom. I imagine sitting in front of it must be like entering a parallel reality.

Your design is beautiful and its imperfections more so. That's the magic of handmade things, the flaws make them perfect, human, unique.

The captures of @fotostef are spectacular. Thanks for sharing so much good energy.

It's extraordinarily beautiful. YOu are so talented, pursuing this ancient womanly craft! I notice you aren't sharing on Instagram anymore - it's not necessary of course, but I would love to see more of it! I can imagine how connected and present you feel as you weave.

That's a lovely piece of work! I recently started dabbling in weaving and it really caught my eye when @fotostef led me here. I'm curious, how many hours do you have in that?
