New Silent Hills Rumors Are Crazy

Why couldn't publishers just leave some things behind? Especially the likes of Konami. Trying to revive an IP when the main talents like Keiichiro Toyama left the company. Who'd to direct and channel the energy and eccentricities of their team to make the best of a Silent Hill game? Konami being a husk of a company that they are, couldn't leave this IP alone.

No, now they wanted to hand it out to someone who makes the least good horror games. While it wouldn't hurt to try, hiring a third party developer to revive your famous IP, after butchering the potential Kojima remake. Talk about insults to several terrible kinds of injury.

Just now, a leak that came out reveals that Konami, with artist Masahiro Ito, veteran of the Silent Hill series providing artwork and concepts. Now, if they can retain the quality, or bring something that really supersedes the prior games, I would be obliged to play the game. Issue is, Bloober. I am not a fan of them.

Distrustful Reputation

Bloober is known as the developer of the Victorian age based horror game, Layers of Fear. It wasn't that scary, but conceptually drew people in. Again, to reiterate for emphasis, they're not that terrifying. We have Devotion, Poppy, and Amnesia games to look for that. Where true horror comes from.

Bloober is known to make good conceptual games, when it comes to gameplay and horror elements, there's quite a bit that leaves more to be wanting. Their Blair Witch game was received with mixed receptions, the new Medium game for the Xbox Series X, was a flop and again, was a high concept game, but lacking in substance and good execution.

So, it's odd to see that they've hired a developer such as Blooper to handle a project like this. Wouldn't be the first time a third-party worked on a Silent Hill game, the only good one that came out after Silent Hill 4 was Shattered Memories, and that was a remake for the PS2, Wii, and PSP.

The other worse aspects are that Konami doesn't much talent or guidance to provide, since their company is now considered to be the worst to work at. After the whole reputation they've been holding since 2015. So, how would Bloober work this out? Well, let's look at the leaks. There are some interesting things going on there.

The Scoop

There have been 4 images leaked so far, all having interesting bits of details here and there. Firstly, there are two protagonists, both Anita and Maya. These images look highly compressed, but it's somewhat decipherable, especially one needing the Japanese translation.

There are other factors like SMS messaging, where the characters from the game would connect with your real life self by sending messages regarding the game when you connect it to your phone. Something Kojima was also working on. Adding lastly, the indication there's been that there's more than one Silent Hill games within the works.

The leaks look to be from 2020, meaning that this game was highly in the conceptual phase, and was probably entering production stage later on. But who could know more? Konami hit the leaker with DMCA strikes. So hard to ascertain more credible details to know what's going on now.

Last October, a rumor came back stating that Kojima was returning to work on a Silent Hill game. Though this rumor seemed pretty far-fetched at best, it was the first to indicate that several Silent Hill games were in the works.

Judging by the leaks here, the game looks pretty interesting, well, outside the "I hate myself" post-it on her forehead. Could be Anita or Maya. With Ito's creative presentation, I think maybe they could do some justice. But that's a reach if anything. I don't really trust Bloober, and hardly anything will change my mind on that.

Two Cents

This really bothers me because there are ideas, things that really do want to me to look more into the game. Something about this looks worthwhile, but when the studio's name came into light, my curiosity and enthusiasm fazed out.

What a time to be alive, who would have thought we'd be here in 2022 talking about Silent Hill again?

Yes, it's probably best to leave the franchise alone. It's doubtful they could re-create the same juicy flavor of psychological horror as previous SH games. Hope they just make a new IP.

Not only that, I wanted to explore what really made horror games better than the marketed trash people currently keep talking about.
