Upcoming Games I Am Looking Forward To Playing (Summer Livestream)

This summer season had quite an interesting library of games shown, and in all honesty, I won't be able to afford every one of them. So many varied titles here, most of them have grabbed my attention but since I can only play few of them, I want to list them. And these listings will be based on what was showcased in the recent livestreams and game showcases.

2022 has been a crazy, though not in a good way, year. As it has been testing us in mind, body and spirit. There's been way more interesting indie selections than AA and AAA seen, some of these games are ridiculously good that it makes me think the indie market will take over.

There won't be any numbers, so the list is as it'll go.

Routine

A relic of the past finally comes back to haunt us, a Sci-Fi horror taking place in a grand vision of the 80s future. Taking place in a lunar base on the moon, the protagonist explores a facility in ruins and left to doom by rampant A.I. bots.

Though it's all conceptual, the big reasons why I am into this is because they finally got a publisher and that Mike Gordon will be composing the music for this. Looking forward to walking into this facility, expecting nothing but the unknown. Routine might be an old project, like first being introduced 9 years back, but the devs have a lot of ideas to explore with the bigger budget right now. So can't wait for this to arrive.

The Callisto Protocol

There's too much hype riding on this game, firstly is because Glen Schofield, the producer for the original Dead Space, is coming back after leaving Activision to make an even grueling and terrifying game than the one he made years back. This time, with the creative team from former Visceral Games working with him.

Described as a spiritual successor to Dead Space, it aims to take the grotesque and macabre to a whole different level. Game was supposed to be connected to the PUBG lore, but had developed into its own thing, and Schofield confirms it no longer has anything to do with the battle royale game. Will also be largely similar, but will also manage to stand out on its own, as well as combining the action elements from the prior Call of Duty games he has worked on. Looking forward to in December this year.

Forza Motorsport

Higher damage details, a lot more involved ray-tracing, and the return of a simulation racing king, Forza Motorsport is coming back big time. I've been playing Forza Horizon games non-stop, but I've always wanted to try out the current gen Motorsport games, which for some reason never arrived in PC Game Pass.

Aside from the first two that I've mentioned, it'll have dynamic weather, tracking temperature, and a robust, state-of-the-art game physics. They are promising 48 times the fidelity. I can see why they took so much time, that they've slated it for release in Q1 next year. These and, of course, a large selection of cars.

Goat Simulator 3

The GOAT of Goats is here, we don't deserve it, but it's there for us nonetheless. Goat Simulator 3 is not a proper chronological installment of the game series, because there was never a 2. They skipped that and went to 3. Probably a dig at Valve and outright effect of it being obscenely funny.

But it's coming for us, and a new set of madness will ensue. I am ready, as I am sure most of are as well.

There's no definitive release date for this, but I can bet this game will be out and about next year. Fingers crossed.

Marvel's Midnight Sun

Yeah, they're not putting out an XCOM 3 anytime soon, but not so hot and bothered by that when they've revealed, instead, to be working on a tactics game based on Marvel's iconic characters.

Protagonist is a custom character named "The Hunter" and will be able to have 40 different powers. There will be 12 different heroes featured based on the Marvel Comics. They include Blade, Scarlet Witch, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and so on.

And the best part, demon Hulk and demon Venom are enemies to fight in the game. They're going all in, and I hope this manages to be one of those great Marvel games. So excited for October. That's also when the new Modern Warfare game drops.

Cult of the Lamb

The meek shall rise against their oppressors, by making a deal with another heretical god to bring their wrath against those that have wronged them. Outside the artstyle inspired by Hazbin Hotel, it juxtaposes some bubbly personality with the eldritch horror present. You gather followers, and they help your base build to power you up, while you go rogue style and fight different enemies across different levels, that are procedurally generated.

There was a demo out of this which shows a lot of potential, and it's pretty clear what kind of games Devolver now publishes. They've shown plenty of games this season, and this one is one of those that's a catch in and of itself. It's coming out real soon this August.

The Plucky Squire

The name isn't fooling anyone. It's a tell of whimsy, where a boy going for an adventure, has his curiosity going to all kinds of places, including somewhere behind the 4th wall. Yes, Plucky is a concept adventure which transcends from just 2D scrawler to a 3D action platformer. All by having boy wonder come out of his books and start slaying in the toy grounds.

This was also another game revealed in Devolver's stream, funny enough the only where anyone can play, including children. It's a colorful adventure, starring a spry young boy just slaying things. That's all it was shown.

I'll be honest, even if there isn't much shown outside the 2-minute gameplay trailer, everything it has shown for got me hooked and Devolver has a really good track record by now. I can wait a year for this one. No problem.

Skate Story

This game is a trip, I honesly have no clue how to properly describe it. Unless you check the trailer yourself. It looks like this skateboarding game, with the camera looking like it is a handheld focusing on the player and the visuals, they look nothing sensical. Everything just feels warped and all looks like a backwards dimension or something.

I like the music, I like how avant-garde it is. Another Devolver Digital game, what do you know. And yet, another year to wait too.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

The one we all want to check out, I hope Capcom manages to really pull this one off. Expectations are very high, and if done right, this will literally be Capcom's golden goose release. What else is there to say? It's a remake of one of the most widely well received action horror games ever.

With the transition to RE engine, really going to see big changes and hopefully good ones. I am keeping my out on the gameplay trailers because there's a lot they haven't told us yet. Another 2023 release, my wallet is saved, thankfully.

Signalis

I have also played a demo of this and it's one of those games introduced in Steam Next Fest. If there's a brief explanation for this, it is that it harkens back to old tank controls modernized for dual analog sticks. It has bone chilling atmosphere, a mortifying Sci-Fi survival horror that has little room to breath, especially with how deceptive it can be. Add to that is a story with a lot of mystery and intrigue.

I really dig the low polygonal visual aesthetics, and the animation. There's just something quintessential about the horror elements in this game, including the music that makes you immediately dread that something is up. Looking forward to be scared the absolute crap out of this October.

Crisis Core - Final Fantasy 7 - Reunion

Just recently announced that both Final Fantasy 7 Remake Rebirth, and Crisis Core remake is coming soon. This remake won't be the same game, since the plot will change based on what ensued in FF7R. I am kind of stoked for FF7R Part 2, but I feel like there's some Kingdom Hearts shenanigans going on over there. This game on the other hand, easier reason for me get excited is because of my man, Zack Fair.

Combat is going to be a variable mix of both the remakes and the original CC. Weirdly enough, it's also coming for all major platforms. Now everybody can like and play a game such as this. Sadly it won't have the visual fidelity that the remakes are going for, but I am all in long as the game is blissful fun. Crisis Core takes me back to early PSP days.

Destroy All Humans 2 - Reprobed

Remake of a good classical sequel, not only that, but they are touting major improvements and additions from the original game. I've seen a lot of footages here and there, and it is showing promise. I am sure this isn't like the best video game you'll ever play, but a game that is a cheeky satire of alien conspiracies as well as cold war aesthetics not only takes me back, it's a perfect recipe for so much cheese on the humor.

THQ Nordic has been doing pretty well with these games. Hopefully they keep up, and also let Eidos do what they want after the acquisition. But the biggest bonus in this one was co-op, both split-screen and online 4-player.

This game is coming out 2 months later, and it's fairly priced. I mean you tell me if they make games like these, no they don't at all. Man, Pandemic Studios left us too soon.

This was a pretty big list, and there was a lot to write about each of them. There's not many games from major AAA publishers these days, I guess they're waiting to release their major games when people get passed the economic recession. I hope I am ready for that. Till then, this list should do for me,

Do let me know what games you're waiting for. There was a lot showcased, maybe you're stoked for some of Capcom's other titles or maybe The Last of Us remake.
