Bangkok SF Cinema Review

During our stay in Bangkok, we wanted to watch Elementals the movie, and check out the local cinemas. SF is one of the larger chains in Bangkok and they have many collaborations with celebrities with fan screenings for various movies. The branch we chose was at the popular Central World. We booked our tickets online which was pretty easy and received a QR code for scanning at the door. Another option is you can collect your tickets at the cinemas which is another step but convenient for those who want to reseller their tickets. All four tickets cost 1240 baht which is around $55AUD and we have chosen the extra wide and legroom seats. This price is already 40% cheaper than watching the same movie in Australia with similar seats.

Due to traffic, we were running late so the kids went inside first while I went to get some snacks and drinks. We will NEVER do this in Australia as it will be normally very expensive with very very VERY limited options. In Bangkok, the cinema offers 4 flavours of popcorn whereas in Australia just plain old salt. I chose a meal deal on offer which was a large drink, large popcorn, and 2 sausages for 330 Baht (from memory) which is around $15AUD. Just a large popcorn and drink will set you back at around $19AUD back at home. Not even to mention that the cinemas in Bangkok offer hot food, our cinemas don't allow this unless you are in Gold Class and order from the expensive menu.

I chose two flavours for the popcorn and waited for them to heat up the sausages. The service here was super fast, I was pretty impressed. The movie started as I bought all the food and we enjoyed the 2-hour movie in peace as everyone was fed. After the movie, the staff told us to leave from the front so they could get the cinema ready for the next session. As I was walking down and looking up, I realised that this is the cinema normally used for fan screenings, ie celebrities will watch a film with the fans and then play games/activities together for 30-45 mins. The cinema was very new, clean and well maintained. We walked out and confirmed this is the place I see online often and just a month before we saw the movie, my favourite stars were there for an event.

Overall we loved the experience at the SF cinemas in Bangkok. The ticket prices were much cheaper in Australia, great food and drinks and everything was so clean. We will definitely try to watch another movie when we go back next time.
