Hi Everyone

At one stage, Gold Coast is the land of Japanese snacks. Why is that the case, before COVID, there are many flights used to flight from Japan directly to the Gold Coast as it is a popular destination for Japanese tourists. A few years ago when we visited the Gold Coast, I remember there were many Japanese grocery stores with all sorts of snacks, drinks and goodies but due to COVID, many of these stores have closed down. There is still a few that operates online which I have purchased before so when we visited the Gold Coast this time, I wanted to see if there are any good Japanese grocery stores around. Unfortunately we have been to a few which is a mixture of Asian grocery but I finally found one called Go Go Mart which is purely a Japanese grocery store around 20 minutes drive from Surfers Paradise.

From Google reviews, it was one of the highly rated stores so I had high expectations. We are used to many varieties in Sydney so I was hoping to find something different up at the Gold Coast. From the outside, the store looks pretty big. There were plenty of free parking outside so that wasn’t an issue. When I stepped in, there was only 1 level of stock for walk in customers. I was a little disappointed how small the store was compared to what I could see outside. There were all sorts of food ranging from snacks, drinks, alcohol, homeware, frozen food and so on. They even have Hello Kitty cup noodles!

Unfortunately the prices there were super expensive compared to what I am used to paying back at home. Variety wise I was a bit disappointed considering I have ordered some unique items online before from Japanese stores from the Gold Coast (most recent time was before Christmas). In the end, I ended up just getting a packet of brown sugar rice cake snack which we haven’t seen before. I was a bit disappointed with the variety but it does have the most Japanese stock in the Gold Coast from all the other Asian stores we have been to. If you are in the Gold Coast and is craving for some Japanese food or goods, this is the place to go to get that quick fix.

The Japanese supermarkets are some of my favourite because they just have a completely different aesthetic to most other supermarkets in the world.

Everything is just cute, tidy and colourful.

Wondering who's their target customer? Japanese visitor or local in Australia?
If their target customer is the local in Australia, supposed they can survive under the pandemic.
But it doesn't really make sense for the Japanese visitor go there buy the Japanese items deliberately, a bit confuse now 😅

Well... I guess raising the prices doesn't end up on stuff like COVID reactions to supermarkets. ALL EMPTY because of a piece of sudden news...
