Hi Everyone,

During our time up at the Gold Coast in Queensland, most of the time we will be in our resort enjoying the multiple pools offered on site. The only time we do go out is when we need to get some dinner and in most cases, we would head over to Surfers Paradise as there are plenty of options there and we found a place with free parking right in the middle of the action so its a no brainer to just drive there. It's been a few years since our last visit to Surfers Paradise and it really haven't changed much. Being in the middle of COVID, we were very surprised not everyone was wearing a mask outdoors and it felt like we were the minority with both adults and kids masked up. The other thing we have noticed is the amount of people out and about. We haven't seen this amount of people out in the city for a long time in Sydney and to see the crowds doesn't seem like anyone is bothered by the virus going around.

Funny enough even my little ones were confused where did all these people come from as they were used to a more quieter setting back at home. I did remind them its the holiday period so more people will be out but even myself was a bit surprised. I've been telling family and friends other than using lots of sunscreen up here, the next thing we use the most is hand sanitizers. I even had to buy more at the supermarket as we have used up the two small bottles we bough from home on this trip. Another thing we were surprised with is there are not many empty shops on the main strip of Surfer Paradise. In Sydney, we can see many empty shops in the CBD and up here it doesn't seem like it has affected businesses as much as we have.

We have been going to to Surfers Paradise pretty much every afternoon after our rest from the pool and so far we haven't been disappointed with our visits. The crowd does worry me a bit so we try to avoid it or quickly walk through to avoid any chose interaction with anyone. For once in the last 2 years, we feel like we are living like we used to with everyone out and about but at the same time there is the worrying part of catching anything (which we ended up did catching COVID). Although we have left Queensland already, we are already missing it and hope to visit again this year if we our borders are still not opened to travel internationally.

LOL Don't worry I had the same question when I first visited years ago. Surfers Paradise is a surburb name with lots of tall high rises (surrounding suburbs are flat) and a really long beach on the coast side. One of the most popular destination in Queensland. Surfers Paradise Beach is were all the surfing happens :)

Comments is going to be overhauled entirely. It is not very good, and we're acutely aware of that. Bear with us a little while.
