Travelgirl Cooks With The Kids | Travelgirl 和孩子一起煮東西

My kids love cooking with me. As a child, I never got to make anything with mum because the kitchen is always out of bounds. As Asian parents, they don’t like kids doing a lot of dirty work and try to protect them as much as possible. As a kid, I would think that is great I don’t need to do anything and just sit on the couch and or play some toys. But as a parent myself, I find that I like the time in the kitchen with my kids and now I wish my parents had done this when I was young.

我兩個小朋友很喜歡跟我一起煮東西.我從小到大媽咪都不讓我在廚房裡因為她會覺得好危險. 年紀小就覺得這段時間可以看電視或玩玩具但現在我是一名媽咪，我跟小朋友在廚房一齊煮東西其實是一件非常幸福的事而會覺得以前如果有機會跟父母一齊煮東西也應該好玩.

Since we moved to this new place, we have done a lot more cooking as a family. The kids get really excited when I tell them we cooking together as they want to be part of everything from the moment we start to get the food. For example, when we make pizzas, they would tell me what they want as toppings. I would then go to the shops and buy their ingredients. The moment I bring these ingredients out from the fridge, they all cheer and would want to start making them immediately. It’s these smiley faces I love to see, the excitement of making the food, anticipating while the food is cooking, and then enjoy the results.

自從搬到新屋我就開始和小朋友一齊煮東西.兩個小朋友非常期待每一次我們在廚房準備食物.好像做 pizza,他們會預先告訴我想要什麼口味然後我就會到超市買材料.每次看見他們期待的心情和笑容我就開心.

I find when kids cook, it helps them build their organisational skills, confidence and patience. Let’s see how they relate. Organisation skills are they require to tell me what ingredients they need for their recipe. Confidence is if they are able to follow instructions and confidently go through with it. Finally, patience would need to wait for the food to be cooked and able to enjoy the results in the end. Something so simple can bring valuable traits for kids which is why I love to do more cooking with my kids.

我發現當小朋友一齊跟我煮東西的時候，他們會養成不同的習慣.他們兩個會先做準備功夫，告訴我要買什麼材料. 然後會訓練到他們的信心，慢慢跟次序來做每一道菜。 最後就訓練到他們的耐性因為從準備到煮菜這段時間他們要明白做每一件事都要付出努力和時間. 我往後都會盡量安排小朋友跟我一起在廚房做一些簡單的菜式，增進我們的感情而且可以讓他們認識不同的食材增長知識.
