Hi Everyone,

Hakodate JR Station is a transportation hub right in the heart of Hakodate City. It is the southern most terminal station of the Hokkaido Shinkansen line where the Shinkansen (bullet train) connects Hakodate with other major cities in Japan, such as Tokyo and Osaka. It is also the station where your JR passes would be validated for usage in Hakodate so it is an important place in the city. If you are traveling by train to Hakodate, you are mostly likely to be arriving at this station. Right outside the station, there is the local tram line station and a large carpark which is close by for the fish markets. There is also a taxi rank for those who want to move to one place quickly.

Inside the station, there is the Hakodate Tourist Information Center. You can get information about local attractions, transportation, and accommodation here. The staff can also provide you with travel brochures and maps to help plan your itinerary and the best part is they can speak simple English.

Like most JR stations, the station has a wide range of shopping and dining options where you can find stores selling souvenirs, clothing, and food. The station's basement floor houses a food court that offers a variety of local and international cuisines. There is also a nice bakery there for bread and cakes.

In terms of lockers, there are some available at the station in different sizes. If you have been to Japan before, you would know these lockers are lifesavers for your luggages or shopping while you explore the city without needing to bring your bags around. Wifi is also available, especially for travelers with limited internet connectivity.

Lastly, remember to take a picture right outside the JR station with the large red statue. It is the symbol of the station. Once we see this red statue, we know we are in Hakodate. Hakodate is a beautiful city, if you are in Sapporo and have a few days spare, take some time to visit this awesome place, you won’t be disappointed.
