Hi Everyone,

Before we headed over to Bangkok, I found out that Studio Ghibli will be holding a special exhibition at Central World from July onwards to September. Presale tickets were already on sale since May but since our trip was pretty last minute, we didn’t book and just bought our tickets at the door which was much more expensive than presale prices. The exhibition was set up with the set flown from Japan and merch was also Japanese therefore lots of local Thai Ghibli fans were excited for this exhibition.

It was pretty quiet when we arrived during a weekday during work hours so there is no need for the VIP tickets. VIP tickets are like another line where you don’t have to wait long when taking photos or visiting for special screenings. We paid 680 Baht per person at the door which is around $30AUD, no special price for kids so that is pretty expensive for Thailand standards (in fact for Australia standards also).

There were lots of posters of all the past Ghibli films as well as a set for each movie or anime that was produced. At each station, the kids can get a stamp and fill up their brochure books. At some stations, we can line up to take pictures on the set and there would be staff there to help you take group photos if wish. Some even tell you how to pose to get the best results which was helpful.

The whole exhibition is mostly in Thai but there were also some English explanations around the hall. We spent around 2 hours in there which was surprising as it didn’t feel like it was 2 hours we spent there. Remembering that the lines were long throughout the hall so I would imagine you would need more time during busier periods. Our favourite was taking a picture like in the Totoro scene and at Kiki’s Delivery. Our kids haven’t seen all the Ghibli films but they were already so interested as every film set was just like in the movies.

At the end of the exhibition, you can visit the store filled with Ghibli merch. We didn’t buy anything but we saw lots of locals buying it all up. The prices were much higher than in Japan which was expected but the range was pretty impressive. I would expect that many items will be out of stock by the end of the exhibition in particular the thermos and soft plushies as they were just all too cute. If you are in Bangkok now and a Ghibli fan, I highly recommend you check out this cute exhibition out at Central World.

Yess, feeling of being in a film set while visiting places related to Ghibli films. Even if your kids haven't seen all the films, they were super fascinated by the magical atmosphere, right? This would be the beauty of Ghibli - being able to transport us to these enchanting worlds, just like in the movies!
