Cheese Tteokbokki 🇰🇷Satisfying our K-drama snack craving

Annyeong! I have been watching K-dramas since last year, sometimes, I think that I have been spending so much time in consuming this kind of media. But, the way of their storytelling is really something! It touches the heart and the stomach too! They have an excellent platform in promoting their culture, cuisine, and tourism.

The first time I have tasted tteokbokki was in college, my friends were huge fans of K-dramas and K-variety shows. I didn't like it at that time because I have a low tolerance with spicy food. But over the years, my tastebuds have become accustomed of anything spicy. I am now eating chili peppers! 😅

Cheese tteokbokki, even with its spicy flavor, is quite mild because of the added cheese. When you're eating something spicy, the trick is to consume milk so that it'll be more tolerable. Spending most of my time at home, I have learned to do things my own. Instead of having this from restaurants, I decided, maybe I can just make it.

Here are the ingredients I have used:

  • soy sauce
  • minced garlic
  • sesame oil
  • cheese - mozarella and quickmelt
  • rice cake
  • fish cake
  • gochujang or red pepper paste

Compared to instant rice cakes, the frozen one is quite bigger in size. You'll need to soak it in water for a few minutes before setting it in a hot pot of water to boil. You can prepare the sauce while waiting for the rice cake to be cooked. For the sauce, the ingredients used were soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and gochujang. You can add a little salt and sugar to taste.

When the rice cake is already soft, add the sauce you have prepared, noting that the water in the pot is in little amount already. Add the fish cake and wait for it to be cooked. Continue stirring so that everything will be cooked evenly. After a few minutes, add the quickmelt cheese to further thicken the sauce. Once everything is cooked, you can top the mozarella on the serving of tteokbokki , so that it'll melt perfectly. For the last step, ready your favorite K-drama/variety show and dig in! 🤤😋
