IT WAS A GIRL - CREATIVE NON-FICTION PROMPT #20(INKWELL)

After my wedding in 2020, I became pregnant with my second child. I didn't realize I was pregnant until after getting sick and having to go in for a medical checkup, which confirmed it. Despite the fact that this meant I would be adding to my family and bringing another life into the world, I was happy about the news.

I was hoping because I wanted a girl for my second child. When it came time to go for the scan to determine the baby's gender, my husband and I left the store in the hopes of learning what we were having. However, when we arrived at the hospital where the test would be performed, we had to wait because there were people in front of us. I was worried because if I had known what I was having, I would have been able to shop effectively, which I had not been able to do. After what seemed like a very long period, it was finally our turn. The person who would be performing the scan ,He instructed me to lie down on the bed, which I did. He then pressed the cold gel against my belle. After checking for all he needed to know and pointing out the sections of the baby's body (which I didn't understand what he was even showing), I asked, "Okay, sir, what about the gender?" After inspecting again and again, he finally stated, "Madam, I can't really tell the sex because the baby has the umbilical chord between the legs, but I guess it's a boy," As he stated that, I felt a little depressed because I wanted a girl, but when he noticed my emotion, he continued,"Well, i'm not sure, Maybe in the next appointment it might reveal itself." I returned home with my husband, and although though I knew he didn't want to say anything that would make me feel worse, he just said,"Babe, don't worry, this baby is a girl, and her name is Shalom." We haven't seen the baby, but he's already given her a name, so I chuckled and replied, "Okay."

At the next appointment, which was after 8 weeks, we were still unable to determine the baby's gender. Even at the third appointment, we were still unable to determine the baby's gender, and I was about one month from my due date, so I told my husband,"Let's just buy whatever we can buy, and let it be a unisex one so we wouldn't be in a bad spot if the baby turned out to be a boy," So we went ahead and acquired the baby supplies we needed, but everything was unisex.

When we did a shoot, I merely used one mind to go fetch a pink outfit that my sister had sewn for me, which I used for the photo shoot and because it was also my birthday soon. I was at my mother's house for the last month because I couldn't walk well, I don't know why, but I couldn't walk well for the last month, so two days before I gave birth to my baby, I had to go to the hospital again for a checkup because of my legs, At this point, I thought I might lose my legs. On getting to the hospital, a test was conducted, and I wasn't even asking for the gender anymore, until I left the hospital, After the doctor confirmed that everything was fine, and that the reason for the pains in my leg was due to the baby's weight and position, it was after I got home and sat down to check the envelope I was given, that was when I saw the gender stated there: XX, I was happy, and I immediately called my husband and told him the good news, and he told me, "I have told you not to worry yourself over it before because I already said it was a girl" I was smiling because I had been worrying over nothing. She was born two days later, on a Saturday, and she was given the name Shalom.

I appreciate you reading my response to The Inkwell's creative nonfiction prompt.

Shopping for unisex clothes and other things like that was a brilliant idea. Even if it turned out to be a bought wouldn't have been a worry.

You wanted a girl and had been worrying that the baby might be a boy.

Good thing, the anticipated worry never happened.

I loved your story it usually happens that they don't let each other see the sex and that makes it more of a surprise.
