Casa Breslelor(The Guild House), culture of craftsmen in Sighisoara, Romania

In the last few posts I've been around the fortress of Sighisoara where I've shown you different tourist attractions so in today's post I want to stay in Sighisoara and visit a miniature museum with an impressive history, The Guild House.

Since we stayed in the centre of Sighisoara, there was no need to use public transport or our own car, so within a ten minute walk we were already at the entrance to the citadel.

I must admit that I was impressed by the buildings painted in different colors, here again I have to make a reproach about these historical buildings that are not so well maintained (some of them).

I am enchanted by the beauty of the streets here, the little souvenir shops or those terraces where you can order delicious traditional food.

After arriving in the citadel we took a few more steps on the cobblestone street and came across a sign pointing the way to the Casa Breslelor(The Guild House) museum.

At first glance the entrance to the museum looked a little strange, we expected to see a different entrance, but the surprise came after we walked through the entrance door.

To visit this museum we had to pay an entrance fee where we could choose to visit just this museum which cost 20lei/4euro/person or a combined ticket between this museum and another museum here in the citadel which cost 25lei/5euro/person.

We opted for the second option to visit both museums, I will write about the second museum in another post (and it is at least as nice as this one).

Opening hours from Monday to Saturday between 10-18 and Sunday between 10-17.

After paying the entrance fee we were informed that we could take as many pictures as we wanted but we also received a map with the location of the second museum whose visit was included in the ticket we just paid.

What can we see in this museum?

First of all I would like to tell you that the guilds (the word I used both in the title and in the text) were associations of craftsmen in the city of Sighisoara, 19 guilds were known in the city, the first records of these guilds were made around 1376.

In what follows in our visit through this museum we will see the medieval tools used by some of the guilds, I can give you some examples of guilds, the blacksmiths, the peelers, the bakers, the tailors, the butchers or the shoemakers.
