The Clock Tower one of the most emblematic places in Sighișoara, Romania

Hello everyone

Have you ever heard of Sighisoara in Romania?

What about Vlad Țepeș Dracula?

Did you know that here in Sighisoara is the house where Vlad Țepeș Dracula is supposed to have been born.

I think I made you curious so today we will visit the fortress of Sighisoara in the city with the same name but not all of it because it has many sights to visit but we will stop at the most emblematic point of the fortress, namely the Clock Tower.

I have to admit that for a long time we have wanted to go to Sighisoara to explore this medieval fortress, but so far we haven't had the chance, so last weekend without too many plans we decided to get in the car and go to Sighisoara.

We are like that, spontaneous, so on the way to Sighisoara we looked for the main objectives we want to reach.

The distance we drove to get there was around 320 kilometers and it took us four and a half hours (with all the stops we made) I know it's a long time but what to do if we don't have too many highways.

In the morning after breakfast we walked the streets leading directly to the citadel and our first stop was the Clock Tower.

After entering the fortress I felt like I was in a medieval town with narrow streets paved with cubic stone (I love this kind of streets) and only after a few steps through the fortress we were greeted by the old Clock Tower.

Lots of souvenir shops.

Slightly disappointed, I noticed that the Clock Tower was under renovation, but even so I went to the ticket office to ask if it could be visited.

Let's see what it looks like on the outside.

Yes, the tower can be visited only partially, the most important part of the tower, namely the place where you could see the whole fortress from above, is closed.

It looks like part of the exterior and the whole roof are under renovation.

I said ok, I really want to visit this place so I will explore the tower only as much as I am allowed.

The entrance ticket costs 20lei/4euro/adult person, don't worry here you are allowed to take as many pictures as you want (I met quite a few sights where photography was forbidden).

Opening hours are between 9-15:30 (weekdays) and between 10:15:30 (weekends) and may change depending on the season.

The Clock Tower has a height of 64 meters which makes it can be seen from any part of the city if you are interested in the history of this tower and the legends about it you can find them here.

Let's explore the tower inside.

After paying the entrance fee we climbed some narrow stairs to the first level where we found a lot of small boards representing the names of the museum rooms and a model of the fortress.

On the second level we found the Medieval Pharmacy equipped with all the utensils of that time, to be honest some of them we have seen nowadays when we went to the dentist, hehe.

We continue our way up these narrow stairs until we reach the final part of the tower where we found the clock mechanism and some pictures of the city seen from above (unfortunately we didn't have access to the outside because of the renovation works).

As I wrote, the most interesting part is closed due to renovation works.

But even so, I tried to capture some pictures from there.

Have a wonderful week ahead.

Wow, the clock tower is truly full of history and very symbolic. Seeing how long ago it was built, the building must be very sturdy

Indeed, the Clock Tower is full of history, but ultimately that is the charm of visiting it, thank you very much for stopping by.
