Autumn meets winter - photo walk during a snowstorm

Canada has been in a deep freeze over the past week and this time not even Vancouver is an exception. We've had the wind chill go colder than -20c which is quite unusual for a temperate coastal climate like ours!

I decided to step outside my usual territory and shoot some high key photographs in the middle of the afternoon. Somehow fall colors have been hanging on for dear life which made for some really bleak but beautiful contrasts during the snowstorm. My fingers felt like popsicles despite having gloves on but it was worth it!

Here are my favorites from the day. All shot handheld on my Z6ii and 24-200mm lens. Still trying to come up with names for them and happy to take suggestions :)

200mm, f/9, 1/40s, ISO 320

This one is my personal favorite from the day. There were lots of colors to play with and overall feels the best balanced.

200mm, f/9, 1/25s, ISO 320

130mm, f/9, 1/50s, ISO 400

My second favorite from the day. Whenever I see crooked trees like this it brings to mind people dancing. Going high key really helped emphasize their shapes against the rest of the chaos.

200mm, f/9, 1/80s, ISO 250

My third favorite of the day. I do wish there had been more color to incorporate in the bottom right, but beggars can't be choosers.

200mm, f/8, 1/15s, ISO 320

200mm, f/9, 1/60s, ISO 400

I almost didn't include this one, but I love the depressing, cold feel and how many of the trees are pointing to the top left.

Fallen leaves sandwiched between layers of ice, with snow falling. The leaves were naturally blurred due too the ice, giving them a bit of a stained glass look.

I hope you enjoyed the images. I personally really enjoyed the opportunity to try something different and express myself in a different way. Be sure to let me know which one is your favorite!
