Getting intimate with a frozen lake

Good afternoon everyone! Or morning or evening depending where you are :) I haven't been out shooting nearly as much as I would like in the past month or so. But I did squeeze a trip to the Canadian Rockies between moving and working on my business! It unfortunately got cut short due to a bad round of food poisoning but it was still a super fun and productive trip.

For me the highlight of the Rockies in winter is always the frozen lakes and various ice formations. You could easily spend days just roaming around the frozen lakes looking for beautiful ice formations and intimate photographs. These two are my favorite intimate photos from the trip, although I've yet to come up with names for them.

Repeated freeze/thaw cycles on the top layer of ice made it as smooth as glass in many spots. I loved the big crack in this ice and the wavy reflections of the sun.

Another side effect of the freeze/thaw cycles was snow becoming frozen into the top layer of ice. In some spots it created a beautiful stained glass type of look. Here it really allowed the bubbles to stand out. The warm light from the cloud reflections provided a nice contrast to the cool blue ice.

I'll hopefully have more to share from this trip soon! Hope you all have a great day. As always, thanks for taking a look :)
