Sexy 10 Drachmai Dimitra Silver Coin

avatar
(Edited)

Just showing off one of my recent additions in my silver collection, a 1930s 10 drachma coin. Definitely one of my favorites, featuring the sexy greek ancient goddess Dimitra on the front side:

Dimitra was the goddess of agriculture back in the days, which explains why wheat is the main theme on the backside of the coin:

The back side also reads, "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ, 10 ΔΡ." which stands for GREEK REPUBLIC, 10 DRACMAI

My coin is a bit beat up but still most of the features are clearly visible. I got it for about 4 euros in case you wonder.

Quick Specs
Composition: Silver (.500)
Weight: 7 g
Diameter: 25 mm

This is so cool.

I love Greek mythology although I never heard of agriculture.

New information.

Why are you stacking silver by the way?
Just for information sake..i don't know so much about silver

Just for fun 😊

It's probably a little bit crude, that should be because of its age, but it's quality and of course, the history behind the coin makes it favourable for one to actually own it.

yup 4 euros sounds like a bargain. do you plan on going in gold coins at any point ?

I am really no expert but ever since I looked deeper into historic gold coins I got three favorites I may or may not get depending on if I ever become rich:

The Roman Julius Caesar Gold Coin
Celtic Rainbow Cup
German River Gold Coin

All start at about 4.000$ if you want decent quality, but I think with that I would be well diversified into historic coins. :)

In my country you can't own any coins older than a few hundred years even if you inherit them or buy them from another country. So I'm not even dreaming of the examples you gave :)

oh that's unfortunate. I guess they make the "it belongs in a museum" argument. I was kind of baffled as well that you can buy such historic pieces for your own private collection in most countries at least.

well a +50% premium is pretty hefty, but with premiums being up anyway might as well buy some history. I paid about the same premium for my 1930s German silver coins as well :^)

Yeah, but you also own part of the history with these. And they look cool! 😎

Do you know if this silver coin was actually used as currency in 1930? Or was it just for collectors/visual purposes?

I see you are still adding to that coin collection. I guess it's pretty cool to actually have a tangible coin collection as well ;)

The value should also do fairly well in terms of appreciation...

Don't care much about value going up tbh, at least for now. It just fun to have 😊

How we wish the coins of today are still made of silver. Makes one think what was in the mind of the decision makers that change the world. Inflation wouldn't be as bad were it that we were still in the gold standard.

Yeah it's a pity silver is no longer used for coins 😢

Dimitra, the Goddess of Agriculture. Almost the size of a quarter and always worth learning something cultural or historical about a coin.

I am on a HUNT for 90% silver dimes, nickels, quarters or whatever… but WITHOUT the ridiculous premiums… seems impossible but if I find it ouff I will buy a massive bag

Nice coin, even if it is the 50% version. You should switch to gold coins or maybe a gold shirt like this tard:

I love the old coins and that one is super cool. I like the simple design too and though it looks well used you can still make out the details. Fun!!

A 7gr coin for €4? Now that's a good offer, where I live any silver coin from the old Venezuela doesn't go below $50, and they weigh less than 5gr.
