Have I ever showed you my sexy silver maple leaves from Canada?

As you can see, I own four 1 oz pieces minted in 2016. I used to have six but I ended up gifting two of them and the receivers were quite happy with what they got!

Here is a closer look:

As you can see, these silver pieces are pretty plain, a sexy queen Eli on one side and a maple leaf on the other.

The mapple leaf is featured on the Canadian flag and is a prominent symbol throughout Canadian history, so no wonder why these coins by the Royal Canadian Mint have it as their main feature:

Historically, the golden maple leaf had represented Ontario, while the green maple leaf had represented Quebec. In 1867, Alexander Muir composed the patriotic "The Maple Leaf Forever", which became an unofficial anthem in English-speaking Canada. From 1876 until 1901, the leaf appeared on all Canadian coins, and remained on the penny after 1901.[source and more historical mumbo jumbo] (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maple_leaf)

Those of you paying a more close eye to details, may noticed some white spots on my coins. Yeah, these are not cum stains as you might have thought. *

They are actually called milk spots and it's a common "problem" in many bullions and sometimes bars, usually arising from some error in the minting process. Other than being visually annoying to some, they don't affect value much, unless we are talking about proof coins:

Milk spots can appear at any time – from days to years – after a coin’s been minted (or stamped). The problem occurs as the coin’s being made – when it’s a flat, circular disk known as a blank, or planchet. The blanks are heated and cooled (a process called annealing) to stop the silver becoming too brittle. But the fatal process happens before annealing when it’s being cleaned and degreased with solvents. source and more info about milk spots

Ok that's enough silver info for today!

Stack on!

*Ok, maybe not all of them 👀😅🥒

Is there a problem with handling silver with the bare hands ?

If it is just metal for you from the start then no. However if you want to keep your coins in the best condition for the long time and possibly extract a bit extra from their numismatic value once you sell them, then scratches, fingerprints and oil marks are no good. The general rule should be: if you touched your coin with bare hand you turned it into "junk silver".
Naturally oxidized silver can actually be more valuable than pure coin (especially when it enhances features of the coin with rainbow effect), but sulfur from the sweat is going to just leave black marks that look awful.

Yeah milk spots suck. But it’s still silver. They changed the design on the Maples in 2018, they have radial lines on both sides now. The milk spotting issue is gone now.

Unlike yours, my coins have cum stains , what can I say I really love my silver 🤣 on a serious note I think the Canadian mint really dropped the ball with the milk spots they supposed to be one of the most advanced mints in the world

Thanks for the explanation of milk spots. I guess it's nice to know that it won't affect the value too much.

The milk spots wouldn't bother me, it may give me a bit of negotiation room to weasel down the selling price a bit.
