Shitty silver! 🀣

(Edited)

A friend told me about his coin collection from his father the other day, nothing special.. essentially a jar where his family threw foreign coins and shit over the years.

I was told I can keep anything I like as long as it's not super expensive. As expected, it was mostly junk but I did score a tiny silver coin after digging the pile fr half an hour or so. It's so beaten it can be barely recognized:

10 cents from Netherlands minted in 1913. Poor little fella, so badly mistreated, the engravings are barely readable 😭

Here's how it looked in it's prime in case you wonder:

Screenshot_20221208210650~2.png source

The front has a portrait of Wilhelmina and reads "WILHELMINA KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN" for "Wilhelmina, Queen of the Netherlands"

Wilhelmina (31 August 1880 – 28 November 1962) was Queen of the Netherlands from 1890 until her abdication in 1948. She reigned for nearly 58 years, longer than any other Dutch monarch. Her reign saw World War I, the Dutch economic crisis of 1933 and World War II. source

The other side is pretty minimalistic, featuring a wreath, minting date and the denomination.

Silverwise, its nothing spectacular either. It weights only 1.4 g, of 0.640, so just 0.9 grams of silver. A bit less actually, thanks to all the damage it has sustained over the years 🀣

Oh well... It was a free score so who cares πŸ˜‚πŸ₯°

In other news, I finally dragged my ass to the post office today to ship my secret Santa package. Hopefully the receiver will enjoy his present πŸ’πŸŽ

1923? Damn, no wonder it was extremely unreadable. But it's aged well for it's age

There's always a gem inside a pile of junk (at least in most cases!). Hope the receiver will treasure this more-than-a-century-old gem :)

This just shows that this coin had been voluntarily changed hands innumerable times. Makes me wonder what it purchased in it's time.

A leader of strength and grace,
A woman of vision and intelligence,
A symbol of peace and equality in a changing world.

She stood tall and proud,
A beacon of hope in a time of uncertainty,
Guiding her people through the storms of history,
With a heart of gold and a mind of steel.

Her reign was a time of progress and prosperity,
Of growth and development for her nation,
As she worked tirelessly to build a better future,
For all of the people of the Netherlands.

She was a queen of the people,
A ruler who always put their needs first,
A true leader who inspired and uplifted,
All who came within her reach.

Now, as she looks down upon us from above,
We remember her with fondness and pride,
For she was a queen like no other,
A shining example of what we can all aspire to be.

So here's to Wilhelmina, Queen of the Netherlands,
A ruler who will never be forgotten,
A leader who will always be remembered,
For the love and legacy she left behind.
