Silver Train! πŸš‚ πŸš†

avatar

If you are a fan of trains then you are gonna love today's silver coin.

A Canadian commemorative coin minted in 1981 for the 100th Anniversary of the Trans-Canada Railway.

Unfortunately, like most of the Canadian commemorative coins, it has that mirror like finish that is really beautiful from up close BUT makes it a real bitch to take a decent photo. Especially for a retard like me. I promise you, it looks much better from up close!

Front:

Nothing much to see here, an old school train with a map of Canada on the background and the face value (1 dollar)

Back:

Just sexy Queen Eli being sexy, at the age of 37. May God rest her soul πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

Edge:

A basic edge, nothing fancy to see here!

Size:

A nice chunky piece (36.07 mm diameter) that dwarfs regular modern coins ^_^

When it comes to silver, we have 23.3276 g of 0.500 purity.

Ok, now let's learn a bit about the Trans-Canada Railway! As always, Chatgbt comes to the rescue 🀣

The Trans-Canada Railway, also known as the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), is a historic railway that stretches across Canada from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. It was built between 1881 and 1885 by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company under the leadership of Sir John A. Macdonald, the first Prime Minister of Canada.

The Trans-Canada Railway was an important project for Canada, as it helped to connect the country and promote economic growth by facilitating the transportation of goods and people. The railway played a significant role in the development of Canada's western provinces, as it provided a means of transportation for settlers, goods, and resources.

And here's something weird about it!

One weird fact about the Trans-Canada Railway is that during its construction, workers encountered a phenomenon known as "railway hypnosis" or "track trance." This occurred when workers became so focused on laying track that they lost awareness of their surroundings and entered a trance-like state. Some workers even reported experiencing hallucinations or seeing phantom trains.

To combat this phenomenon, the CPR implemented a system of rotating workers to prevent them from becoming too exhausted or overworked. They also hired Chinese laborers, who were believed to be more resistant to railway hypnosis due to cultural practices such as meditation and acupuncture. Overall, railway hypnosis was a strange and unexpected side effect of building the Trans-Canada Railway.

Ok, that's enough for today! Hope you enjoyed today's piece and found it's related history interesting.

More cool silver....Soon!

Fun facts @trumpman,
The 2015 25 Cent, The Haunted Brakeman coin would be a cool companion coin but the problem is it is not silver. The 1986 Vancouver Train Silver dollar is another great silver coin.

Yeah, that one is pretty cool. I have a few ships, but not sure I have a locomotive. Thanks for showing, @trumpman.

track trance... Sounds kind of like the highway trance people fall into on the long boring highways of the US and Canada that are so boring people fall asleep while driving on them, especially overworked truckers.

Anyway, another cool coin. You are building up quite a collection!

Very cool coin! Very interesting story behind the railway. I had never heard of railway hypnosis. I guess the ghost train must have scared them! I love the coin, I don't think I've ever seen this one before. Thanks for sharing and keep on stacking!
