This is a 5 deutche mark piece I briefly showed you a couple days ago. And it's also a piece I have been eye balling for a while but I couldn't find for the right price.

I think I still overpaid a little (8.5 euro) but I just had to have it:

Don't ask me why, but there's just something appealing about it. Maybe a fetish in the closet? Who knows!

I had no idea what or who this ugly mother fucker is but after checking numista, it turns out this is a commemorative coin minted in 1976 for the 300th Anniversary since the death of Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen. And I thought I had a big name 😂😂😂

So who is this fella and why is he ugly as fuck

Turns out he looks ok actually

Hans_Jakob_Christoffel_von_Grimmelshausen (1).jpegsource

Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (1621/22 – 17 August 1676)[2] was a German author. He is best known for his 1669 picaresque novel Simplicius Simplicissimus (German: Der abenteuerliche Simplicissimus) and the accompanying Simplician Scriptures series.

As for the monster figure, it's from the cover of his best known novel "Simplicius Simplicissimus" inspired by the events and horrors of the Thirty Years' War which devastated Germany from 1618 to 1648.

Honestly, I am not interested in literature that's 400 hundred year old so I won't bother what it's all about. So here's a link to wikipedia if you want to learn more about the novel. Quick interesting fact though, it is regarded as the first German adventure novel and the first German masterpiece!

As expected, we have a cool and unique design of an imperial eagle on the back

received_3375301836026436.jpeg

Silverwise, it's the same as the rest 5 Deutsche marks we have seen. 0.625 of
11.2 g.

And that's pretty much about it! Definitely one of my favorite designs from Germany for now!

Still a pretty damn cool coin! Four hundred year old literature isn't the most interesting thing to read but it managed to get him his own coin!

I like the coin, where do you get them? You get also gold coins, or only silver for the moment?

For kids only silver. Recently I stroke a deal with a local coin shop for a fixed discount but I used Facebook groups a lot in the past!

Silver, silver and more silver and it looks like a weird deity from ancient times that some people might praise upon. Its fascinating the design and representation of some silver coins, as if they deviate from the normal. But on the other hand, what defines something as normal?

I thought the figure was some kind of Marvel comics hero of Medieval times. What do I know?

The coin looks nice but am wondering if that dude was actually half human and half dragon.

Yeah, somewhere along the line obesity became attractive, too. I miss all the attractive, pretty, and sexy girls, I went to high school with, that got fat. Still love them, though. But, damn! Sorry if I owe anyone an apology. Are fiat apologies acceptable and real? But, there is something interesting & cool, about that Coin. I like it. Thanks again, Trumpman - @trumpman.

That is a weird name but it's an amazing coin. I don't think I have ever seen it and being the first in Germany sounds like a pretty big deal.

I imagine if gold can be has cool like that. But the price will increase.

yeah, gold is about 80 X more expensive. One of the reasons silver is good is cause it's still precious yet affordable :)

I like it! I mean you had to have it 🐸. Where else will you find such an attractive fish on a coin? 8.5 euro? Well worth it. But damn, that guy had a long name 😂. Maybe to make up for the fact that he had weird fish feet 😌
