The somewhat Great Wall of China

avatar

Family went to bed early today night so I figured to watch a movie before rubbing one off on pornhub.

Netflix recommended me a fantasy movie called The Great Wall starring Matt Damon. It's not based on the one Trump wanted to make to keep Mexicans out, but instead, The Great Wall of China that as we all know was made to keep ugly scary aliens out:

In ancient China, a group of European mercenaries encounters a secret army that maintains and defends the Great Wall of China against a horde of monstrous creatures. source

Overall I must admit I found the movie quite enjoyable despite the relatively dump yet unique and interesting plot.

The cinematography and visuals were pretty good although I found the monster's cgi a bit...outdated? The movie was released in 2016 yet at times it felt like late 90s/early 20s. I won't complained much though, combined with the imo excellent camera work the movie did a good work to immersinf me in its world.

The battle scenes were also unique, epic and more than generous enough in quantity.

When it comes to acting I guess Matt Damon does a decent job along with the rest, mostly Chinese, peeps.

All in all, a beautifully told, fast paced story with some unforgettable battle scenes. Yes, it has its flaws but it's more than a decent watch.

Easily a 7/10 from me. If you are into monsters and shit than give it a watch when you have some free time. I think you won't regret it!

I remember the film, I saw it a while ago. Although it was a bit fantastic, I think it was fun to watch.

You are just funny...

The movie was released in 2016

A good reason for the CGI to be that way.

7/10 is a fair movie. I don't know I find it difficult to see movies nowadays and so its just tiring.

I sleep even before the plot hits

Nice. Another movie to look forward to watching with the kids. Thanks for the recommendation.

So Jurassic Park came out in 1993. This movie was 2016? Were the graphics better or worse than Jurassic Park? Asking for a friend.

I'd say jurrasic park felt more natural but I think they did practical effect ! Ofc no chance practical effects would be viable with the amount of monsters the great wall had 🤣

Do you know if the movie has some basis in legend? Did ancient Chinese legends give stories of actual monsters trying to attack?

I can wait to see this thing tomorrow with the fam. It should be fun.

I had watched this movie in the same year after 2 months of release, and that time I had waited for it to get on DVD lol. It has a beautiful ambience, awesome CGI effects, lots of green screen work and monsters are something you don't want to mess with.

I recommend you to watch Monkey King Series, you'll see the absolute insanity, no head no tail, but all hairy actions, not naked btw. 🙈🐒

Cool. Added this one in my watchlist.

Another mystery series like "aliens behind the great wall of china". And now "Bermuda Triangle" based named "1899" is also coming soon.

Trailer was so far dope and it is coming from the creators of "Dark". Quite excited to watch it and hopefully you're as well.
