Sunday Musings- Sunday and Me

Sunday is the day before the week kicks off in earnest. I am hours away from a commute in traffic and a hectic work week. I have dental work this week and am a bit leery of that. Sunday is the traditional day if rest, and it's importance cannot be overstated in my life.

When I reflect back on Sundays past, I have rememberance of good times and dread for the work week to begin. Sunday is traditionally a family day and a time to relax. If we focus in the future too intently, we miss the gift of the present. Focusing on the present moment makes Sunday the best day of the week. Try focusing on what you're expering in the present moment and abandon any fears you have of the future.

Sunday is a day of rest. Or at least it should be. Many cultures celebrate a Sabbath that is set aside for rest. The Sabbath is a commandment that is observed to commerate the day God rested after creating the Universe.

Resting is essential to the human condition. We need some time to recharge and for me, Sunday is that day. Humans need something to look forward to regularly, and Sunday holds a time to do those things.

What kind of activities should be done on the day of rest? It's completely up to you. There is a famous story in the Bible in which Jesus was confronted by the Pharisees about performing miracles on the Sabbath. Jesus replied that the Sabbath was made for man, and in the Torah King David and his men are sacred bread from the temple on the Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for men, and men often needed to accomplish something on that day. We can rest any day of the week, and Sunday is my day to rest.

When I consider the week ahead, it often seems overwhelming. So much to accomplish and a tight schedule to do it in. Early morning wakeups and scads of reports and tasks to accomplish. It's draining to consider, so I'm content to just not think about it on my day if rest. That took dedication and self-training to accomplish and it's necessary for me to function.

The weeks go so fast. Sunday is like the calm before the storm. It's a sanctuary.
