Don't give up! Listen first - LOH Contest #117 [ENG-ESP]

avatar

Hello Ladies!, I just read the prompt for this week's Ladies of Hive Community Contest #117 and wrote about 1300 words so fast. Yeah, this paragraph is the last one, haha, so I might start with a conclusion: don't see Hive as an instant compensation site. This is work for the medium-to-long term. And definitely don't do this just for the money; we all know that's one of the reasons we are here, but you are going to get much more than you expect if you do it with other goals in mind.

Don't give up! Listen first

Barra 1.png

As someone who gets frustrated easily and finds it incredibly hard to stay interested and committed to a project for a long time, I can perfectly understand why the personas in these questions will want to quit after such situations. But there's one thing I've always thought about and tried to live up to in the last year: you can't let your pride work against you.

Leaving Hive for those reasons will be an act of pride mixed with self-sabotage. There is more than one way to make this work, and it requires recognizing what we are doing wrong, what is just a coincidence, and understanding that quitting will not punish anyone but ourselves. The "people" you are mad at, which will be pretty abstract, won't be affected in the slightest, but you will lose a great opportunity to develop your skills and get some extra money.

To answer specifically to each one:

Barra 1.png

1️⃣ Scenario 1: A reputation 52 friend says that she no longer wants to be active in Hive, claiming that she can't make the time, the coin is so low valued, and only a few people ever read her posts. What could you do to encourage and help her to keep trying? Writing tips? Time management? Other?

Barra 1.png

  • First, you can make the time; at least once a week, you can post and focus on making a quality post rather than several low-effort ones.

  • Do your research: a variety of factors can influence whether or not your post is seen or voted on. It could be that you chose the incorrect community; the community is not active and does not have curators; you did not follow the rules or reach the minimum quality expected; you posted a random post in the middle of a community event that was the curation priority; and so on.

  • Try to be present in the community or at least read it so you can understand its dynamics, and don't post if you are not willing to meet the criteria or accept the randomness of their votes, because there are some pretty organized communities where content is 100% curated based on quality, and others where you are just lucky to be seen by the right people.

  • Posting in multiple communities, voting, commenting, and engaging are all factors. Some people will go see your post just because you commented on theirs, but if you are never around, how will they see you?

  • Just find communities where you feel good and try several topics, you never know which is actually your best option. Sometimes we think we are good at drawing, and it turns out we are great gardeners.

Regarding the value of the coin, you have to understand how the market works. It's not a bad thing to earn rewards when the coin value is low.

Maybe in the short term, yes, it's not great, but you have to see the big picture.

  • In a post that shows a $20 value $10 is yours.

  • It splits again in $5 in HP and $5 in HBD.

  • HBD is meant to be close to $1, so it will be pretty stable. Sometimes it goes lower and sometimes it goes higher; I've seen it pass the $2 mark.

  • HP (staked HIVE) is more volatile; right now (in this scenario), you are earning the equivalent of $5 in HP, which is around 16.

  • HIVE can go from $0.2 to $1; I saw it go to $4 once, so your current $5 can potentially become $80 at any given moment.

This is all roughly calculated based on my experience and the information I've read in Leo Finance and everywhere in Hive that I see people talking about this.

But it gives you the idea, work for the future, it won't be that far away because we are in a bear market now, but we were in a bull one not long ago, and we will be in a bull one in the future too, so the more you make now, the greater the reward will be in the future. Use your HBD if you need them, but try your best to not power down your HP and keep your HIVE.

Ah, when the coin value is high, you will receive roughly the same $5 in HP, which will be 1.25 if the coin is valued at $4, which will make your account grow slower and make you lose more on the next low price.

(Again, not an expert, just processing what I understand from the information I've read. Do your own research)

Now, some tips for writing:

  • Use the templates. Create a presentation that you like, a flow that works for you, and a structure that is your identity. This will save you a lot of time formatting and will serve as a guide to ensure you always have a good amount of words, an intro, a middle, and an ending so you don't lose track. I'm not using one now; I'm just putting all my heart and head into this post, haha, but I usually do so I don't go all over the place.

  • Use a calendar to organize what you want to write about or when you have to write if you want to always participate in an initiative (for example, "all the Thursdays I'll write for the LOH Contest").

  • Think before sitting in front of the PC. You will lose so much time if you have to think up the idea right before you have to write. Think about your idea when you are walking, doing the dishes, having lunch... and sit in front of the PC with something in mind. The ideas are in our experiences, not on a blank page.

Barra 1.png

Don't give up; the normal route takes time; you cannot expect to be the exception, and you can't measure your success by comparing yourself to prodigies and special cases; that will always frustrate you.

Barra 1.png

2️⃣ Scenario 2: A reputation 58 girl is frustrated over her last post having been downvoted to half it’s payout by a Watchdog account accusing her of plagiarism. She becomes angry and vows to quit Hive. What could you do to help resolve the situation? Tell her to relax? Other? Thoughts?

Barra 1.png

Did you commit plagiarism? No? Are you completely sure?
See, there are many ways we can commit plagiarism without realizing it. One is to write something someone told you without checking if that person thought it themselves or just told you something they read.

Another is to base your information on a source but forget to mention it, using not your own words and understanding but writing it in such a way that it shows up in a search.

If you, in fact, did not commit plagiarism, prove it. Show how the process led you to the result. If you can't prove that you didn't commit plagiarism and there is evidence that says otherwise (rightly or wrongly), then accept it and be careful next time. Check that you are not using other people's content without even processing it.

Very important: you can plagiarize any kind of intellectual property, even a spoken speech. It is not the same to produce content similar to someone else's, which can happen because ideas are often in the air, or to be inspired by someone else and say it, as it is to take the idea that someone else expressed and then make it your own.

Barra 1.png

Barra 1.png

Another case would be if it happens to you all the time and there is no reason for that, now you have to find someone to help solve this issue, and that would be a different scenario than the one in this question, haha.

Barra 1.png

For the two scenarios:

Study yourself, see what's on your side, and take steps to fix it. Don't take anything personally (unless something really happens that shows it is personal, but most of the things that happen here are not). Hive will help you grow because you will have to learn a lot to stay here, whether it is about Hive or the topics you choose to write about; you will learn to write, do research, and make money; keep the effort, just not blind effort.

Stay strong, you've got this!

¿Otro? ¿Pensamientos?

Barra 1.png

¿Cometiste plagio? ¿No?

Si no has cometido plagio, demuéstralo.

Y muchas gracias, aprecio mucho tu comentario 😁

Your style in laying out your points simply exude with positivity and I think that is what our challenged Hiver needs when she is feeling frustrated.
You'd make a great Hive Counselor.

Thank you so much!

I've been one of those that get frustrated, and everything felt way better when I was able to identify my part and work on that. Ah, and I stopped comparing myself with the trending view haha, I open my feed on the "recent" option, not "trending" as it gives me a better idea of the reality of the majority, and later I see trending just to get inspired by what's doing better.
