Paper sculpture, weird thing from my university final work. [ENG/ESP]
Escultura de papel, cosas raras de mi trabajo final en la universidad
A few years ago I did my final work, which was called "The moiré effect in the plastic arts" I will not put all the explanation because it is a little tedious, but some of the final product, which as much in my life, happened by accident.
Hace unos años hice mi trabajo de grado, se llamó "el efecto moiré en las artes plásticas" no voy a colocar toda la explicación porque es un poco tedioso, pero sí algo del producto final, que como mucho en mi vida, se dio por accidente.
I started to make the digital prototype because I was told that I needed to give a better explanation, but I did not know how to model what I wanted, I started to play with the program, I made a cylinder with several straight panels and I started to move it, it was an interesting figure on which I started to work the idea; but something "very nice" happened, my teacher wanted me to do this in physical, to present it, not just theorize it... I was left with the problem And now how do I do this? I even imagined it in a 3D printer, which I don't have.
El prototipo digital lo comencé a hacer porque me dijeron que necesitaba dar una mejor explicación, pero no sabía como modelar lo que quería, empecé a jugar con el programa, hice un cilindro con varios paneles rectos y ello empecéa moverlo, quedó una figura interesante sobre la que empecé a trabajar la idea; pero pasó algo muy simpático, mi profesora quería que yo hiciera esto en físico, para presentarlo, no solo teorizarlo... me quedó la problemática ¿Y ahora como hago yo esto? lo imaginaba hasta en una impresora 3D, que no tengo.
The closest thing I had was the opaline, I made a lot of attempts, just guessing, because I really had no idea how to imitate that figure, I was very stressed. I paused for a moment because I didn't have infinite material to make trial and error, @yetsimar lived in a house near my residence and I was there, she gave me a pancake, it was a magic pancake, after lunch I made another attempt and voila! I made some marks and folds in an opaline ribbon that gave me the possibility to fold it, making it turn on itself and when the ends met it formed a cylinder, you can see that it is composed only of straight lines, but the twist looks completely circular.
Lo que más se asemejaba y tenía, era la opalina, hice un montón de intentos, tirando a pegar porque la verdad no tenía idea de cómo imitar esa figura, estaba muy estresada. Pausé un momento porque tampoco tenía material infinito para hacer prueba y error, @yetsimar vivía en una casa cerca de mi residencia y yo estaba allá, me dio una panqueca y pues la panqueca mágica, después de comer hice otro intento y voilá! Hice unas marcas y dobleces en una cinta de opalina que me dieron la posibilidad de doblarla, haciéndola girar sobre sí misma y al juntarse los extremos se formaba un cilindro, se nota que está compuesto solo po rectas, pero el giro se ve completamente circular.
I did it a couple more times so I knew I could repeat it and then took it to a larger scale for my presentation.
The idea behind it is that you could make a three-dimensional sculpture with images that change as the viewer moves, but I wasn't going to have everyone walk around it in the presentation, so I put it on a rotating base that my dad helped me with. It has some figures drawn on the surface that I didn't get to perfect but they show what the idea was. I still have this work as an ornament in my room.
Lo hice un par de vece más para saber que podía repetirlo y luego lo llevé a una escala mayor para mi presentación.
La idea detrás es que se podía hacer una escultura tridimensional con imágenes que cambiaran según el espectador se moviera, pero no iba a hacer que todos caminaran al rededor en la presentación, así que lo puse sobre una base giratoria con la que mi papá me ayudó. Tiene unas figuras dibujadas en la superficie que no llegué a pulir pero muestran cual era la idea. Aún tengo este trabajo como un adorno en mi cuarto.
