  • All units gain the Blast ability.

  • Additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up.

  • Include a unit with Reflection Shield in your lineup to absorb blast damage and protect your back line.

Hello SPL family

Another week, another set of Battle Mage secrets. This week's highlighted ruleset is explosive weaponry. Explosive Weaponry is a ruleset that grants blast ability to all units. When this ruleset is in effect, what I sometimes use here is a fast and widespread offensive gameplay. Thus, I sometimes employ Conqueror Jacek, who has the scattershot ability that grants all units +2 speed. It's great for quickly spreading the blast effect in the battle. For defense, I consider using taunt or camouflage and a monster with reflection shield ability. The purpose of my defense is to focus the opponent's attack in one direction only. Overall, speed is still great to use in this ruleset because the faster you attack the opponent, the faster you can spread the blast effect. So, it's good to use monsters with swiftness and slow abilities.

There are two ways to defend against blast damage: reducing the damage and using a reflection shield. The reflection shield absorbs the blast damage, preventing a monster with reflection from being affected by the blast. To reduce blast damage, you can use three abilities: void, shield, and protect. Void reduces magic attack damage, shield reduces physical attack damage, and protect adds armor to units. It's also effective to combine void and shield in defense to further reduce damage. This includes using Demoralize with a shield to decrease physical damage and silence with void for magic attacks. You can also use abilities that bounce damage, such as magic reflect for magic attacks and return fire for ranged attackers.

If your gameplay focuses on offense, there are many abilities you can use:

Swiftness: To increase your attack speed, the faster you attack, the faster the blast damage spreads.
Slow: Similar to swiftness, you can slow down the opponent to gain an advantage in speed.
Inspire: To increase melee damage, larger damage also means larger blast damage.
Scattershot: Spread your attack on the opponent, and the blast damage will also spread. This is also effective against taunt and camouflage because it bypasses them.
Opportunity: So that the attack is not focused on the 1st position, as opponents often use a reflection shield in the second position to reduce blast damage.
I'll share a battle from the SPS DAO tournament in the silver league where I didn't use speed and scattershot. Instead, I used camouflage so that the opponent's attack would focus on the front. I also used two healers to heal my tank and backline due to the damaging effect on my second position. Let's see if my strategy was effective in the battle.

MY BATTLE

battle ruleset.png

The battle condition is 22 mana caps The elements that you can not use are fire, water, life, and dragon. The rulesets are what doesn't kill you, fire and regret, and explosive weaponry.

TEAM COMPOSITION

battle line-up card.png

Because the ruleset is Explosive Weaponry, the summoner I chose for this battle is Lily Shieldpaw, who has triage and camouflage abilities. She will also provide an additional +1 life to all units. Lily's triage ability heals the backline unit, while camouflage is to focus attacks on the 1st position. For the first position, I chose Djinn Oshannus, a magic attacker with void ability at level 1. Because one of the rulesets is "what doesn't kill you," where all units will have the enrage ability, it will help Oshannus increase his speed, possibly causing the opponent's attacks to miss due to his increased speed if the enrage ability activates after he is attacked. Oshannus's void ability provides protection against magic attacks to reduce the damage. For the 2nd position, I chose Void Dragon, which has flying and void ability at level 1. Like Oshannus, Void Dragon's void ability will provide protection against magic attacks. For the last position, I chose Merdaali Guardian, a no-attack monster with tank heal at level 2. Merdaali's tank heal ability will heal the 1st position.

KEYNOTES

My strategy in this battle is double healing for the front and back. Where the tank heal will heal the 1st position and the triage will heal the backline where there may be damage due to the blast effect from the opponent's attack.

BATTLE HIGHLIGHTS

Oshannus of the opponent lasted until round 10 before he died due to my continuous damage to him. Luckily, the opponent didn't have a healer, so I managed to kill Oshannus of the opponent.

In round 12, Void Dragon executed a double kill. First, Void Dragon killed Deeplurker with a direct hit, and because of the blast effect, Hardy Stonefish also died.

Since Torrent Field only had 1 life left, he wouldn't be able to survive the battle, so the battle ended in round 13.

CONCLUSIONS - Fire.png

  • Overall, the double heal strategy was successful. Merdaali Guardian's healing was a big help to Djinn Oshannus, while Lily Shieldpaw's triage helped Void Dragon to be healed from the blast effect inflicted on him.

  • Lily Shieldpaw's Camouflage also helped to focus the opponent's attack on Oshannus.

  • If you want to bypass the camouflage ability, you need to use scattershot. It's also good to use a scattershot in explosive weaponry to spread the effect of the blast.

  • A good strategy for explosive weaponry is the combination of scattershot and speed to spread the blast effect to the opponent more quickly.
