Hello SPL family

Another week, another set of Battle Mage secrets. This week's highlighted ruleset is Fog of War. In this ruleset, you can not use the opportunity, sneak, and snipe in the battle while scattershot not affected you can use the scattershot ability in the battle. The Fog of War and Lily camouflage are similar aspects because all attacks from the enemy are focused on the 1st position, except when sneak, snipe, and opportunity are enabled. However, due to the camouflage ability, all enemy units can only attack those in the front. Except for scattershot, reach, and flank abilities are also not affected, allowing them to attack in the 2nd position.

The battle I will show comes from the SPS Dao Free Tournament. This is the Poseidar Wild Silver Invitational where I only placed 66th. One of my matches in the 1st round had the Fog of War ruleset, so I chose it to demonstrate how I won our battle.

MY BATTLE

The battle condition is 36 mana caps The elements that you can not use are water, earth, life, and death. The rulesets are Close Range, Fog of War, and Corrosive Fog.

TEAM COMPOSITION

battle lineup card.png

For this battle, I chose Possibilus the Wise as the summoner. He is a summoner who adds +2 life to all units and also grants them trample and reach abilities. I selected him for the battle so that Kulu Mastermind could attack in the 2nd position due to the reach ability provided by Possibilus the Wise. For the 1st position, I chose Lord Arianthus, a no-attack monster with void, shield, and magic reflect abilities. He is suitable as a tank in the battle because I expected my opponent to use magic and ranged attacks due to the Fog of War ruleset. Lord Arianthus's void and shield abilities will provide him with protection to reduce the damage from magic and physical attacks. For the 2nd position, I selected Kulu Mastermind, a melee attacker with weapons training, shield, and opportunity abilities. Kulu Mastermind's weapons training ability will enable him to deliver melee attacks like Merdaali Guardian and Lord Arianthus. Since Kulu Mastermind cannot use his opportunity ability, he can still attack the 1st position due to the reach ability from the summoner. For the 3rd position, I chose Merdaali Guardian, a no-attack monster with tank heal ability, to heal the unit in the 1st position. For the 4th position, I chose Musa Saline, a magic attacker with scavenger and shatter abilities, to easily break the opponent's armor due to the shatter ability. For the 5th position, I chose Sultry Barmaid, a ranged attacker with ambush and stun abilities, to stun the unit in the 1st position of the opponent. Lastly, I chose Doctor Blight, a magic attacker with affliction, camouflage, and poison abilities, to afflict and poison the unit in the 1st position.

KEYNOTES

Because of weapons training from Kulu Mastermind Lord Arianthus and Merdaali Guardian grant melee attack ability.

BATTLE HIGHLIGHTS

In the 2nd round, due to the trample ability from the summoner Possibilus, it triggered after Merdaali Guardian killed Torrent Fiend and trampled onto the 2nd position, also killing Magi Of Chaos due to the trample.

In the 3rd round, although Merdaali Guardian's attack missed Runemancer Kye, he still endured Doctor Blight's magic attack and poison.

The battle ended in round 4 because my units had enough damage to eliminate the remaining 2 units of the opponent.

CONCLUSIONS - yellow font.png

  • My plan to use Reach Ability to attack Kulu Mastermind in the 2nd position was a success.

  • I also succeeded in using Lord Arianthus in the 1st position because I expected my opponent to use magic or ranged attacks.
