The dream doesn't have to die; it just has to wait until you are financially ready to pursue it
Hello Hives,
If you ask me to choose between a well-paying job I don't really enjoy and a low-paying job I love, my answer might surprise some people. In today's Nigeria, I will choose the one that pays well. Honestly, with the way things are going, I don't think I need much time to make that decision.

Don't get me wrong. I believe following your passion is a beautiful thing. There is happiness in doing something you genuinely love, but we also need to be realistic about the situation we find ourselves in. Passion is good, but responsibilities are real too.
As someone who works as a plumbing technician, I understand what it means to work hard to earn a living. Plumbing is a skill I have developed, and it helps me make money and take care of my responsibilities. Although I genuinely love the job, I know I don't want to do it for the rest of my life. The physical stress and demands that come with it are not something I want to deal with forever and I want to manage my health as well because I'm dealing with ulcer and stress has been one of the major setback while treating it.
One of my biggest dreams is to venture into farming, especially poultry farming, and eventually become a successful business owner. I want to build something meaningful, create opportunities for others, and give my family a better life. That is something I genuinely look forward to.
But does that mean I should abandon plumbing today and jump into farming without having enough money to sustain myself? Definitely not!
Dreams are beautiful, but we need resources to make them a reality. Starting a farm requires capital, proper planning, patience, and hard work. I cannot allow my desire to follow my passion to make me forget the responsibilities I have today.
Let's be honest. In Nigeria, providing for yourself and your family is becoming increasingly challenging everyday. The cost of food, transportation, house rent, school fee and other basic necessities keeps putting pressure on people's income. Sometimes, earning a salary is not even enough to cover everything.
That is why I believe financial stability should come first. If I get an opportunity to earn a good salary, even from a job that is not my ultimate dream, I will gladly consider it. I can use that income to take care of my family, save money, and gradually invest in my farming dream.
For me, choosing financial security does not mean giving up on my passion. It simply means being wise enough to prepare for the future I want.
My goal is not just to make money. I want to build a life where I can take care of my family without constantly worrying about money, enjoy what I do, and eventually spend more time doing something I truly love.
Sometimes, the dream does not have to die; it just has to wait until you are financially ready to pursue it.
What about you? If you were in my shoes, would you choose financial security first or take the risk and follow your passion?

What you are saying makes perfect sense but working for ourselves building a business of our very own is building our dreams instead of someone elses but this takes money that may involve an extra job.
This way you can do both but it is alot of work.

Hmmm! Passion is good dear but responsibilities don't want to know if you have money or not. House rent, school fees, feeding, hospital bills and lots more are all waiting for us
That's just it ma'am and more of the reason why we all face the reality and left passion hanging.
Agriculture is really not a bad idea at all, I also love that and hope to get into it somehow.
I hope to see you do that soon. Thanks for stopping by
The global challenge ia birinf hard and as a result, most people wants to cut corners.
However, before getting that high job, or that business, there must be an interest to pursue the opportunity or business and if that doesn't happen how will one stay in that business 🤔 😉
Oh, well , such is what we found in our country right now.
