Best advice- Never mistake consistency for disturbance(Personal experiences)

I am no motivational writer, but I can motivate you. Sometimes in life, someone with good experiences is a right person to share ideas with. There are many motivational speakers and writers that they do not practice what they preach. Just lately, someone was preaching social distancing for a big brand company in my country, and after a few days she organized her birthday and many people was in the event. So, I do not listen to every motivational speakers. Most times, I read and listen too many of them; I pick the one I believe to make sense, think and digest it, then apply to my life.

I am not saying motivational writers or speakers are leading the people wrong, but not everyone can manage a company. Not everyone will be a company CEO, and not everyone has the ability, will power and the capability to lead. If you force them to do what they are never meant for, it may end it in catastrophe. Limitation starts from the mind. So it takes steps for anyone to learn and be what they find hard to do.

I don’t want to stress too much on that. I want to share some of my personal experiences about consistency. How I was and how I am now. I am the last of many children in my family. I am getting closer to 30. The firstborn of my family is getting closer to 60. I never spoke to him in 12 years. That is not the point. I grew up amid guys, and I was the youngest. I don’t look for troubles and I don’t disturb people. The only person I used to disturb then was my mom, but she is late now. Whenever I ask someone for something and the person keeps posting it like, "I will give you tomorrow". If the person fails, I will give up, and tell myself. "I don’t want to disturb him".

I grew up with this mindset. When I ask or push for something and it doesn’t work in time, I give up and switch to other things. After my Degree, I left my state of origin to the Capital City to search for Job and have a better life (I have brothers that are billionaire and millionaires, in my city, no exaggeration, I don’t want to mention names here because a few people from my country and state of origin are here).

After 3 years in the capital city, I was working with a Tech and Cryptocurrency company and my salary was decent, plus I got to know more of tech world and blockchain. This is when Bitcoin was under $400. One day, I received a call for an interview at one of the well-known banks in the country. I applied for the job before I got the Tech company I was working with. So, I said, I don’t need this bank Job. I am getting better ($dosh) here. However, I responded well and prepared for the interview day.

I did not read for the interview, I just wanted to see what going to happen. On the day, I got to the place. I met a guy(Vincent) that also applied for the job, and we chatted. He shared little things about his life, and I talked about mine. I shared about my brother in my state that is a Billionaire and what got me angry and how I left my state because of some things, and others things that I have picked and dropped.

He said to me, “Mike, the only thing I see in you is inconsistency”. I was mute for a minute. I replied to him, “Thank you”. His word ran through my mind during the interview. I could not concentrate. After the whole thing, I left. In the night that day, I could not sleep. His words were rolling in my mind. So, that night I knew the difference between disturbing others or myself and consistency.

Disturbance/Consistency

Disturbance

There are situations in life that we try to do some things and when it is not coming through as expected, we will say, "I don’t want to disturb myself because of this. I will let it go". Or sometimes we ask someone for something, and the person keeps posting it, we say, "I don’t want to disturb this person anymore". The acts of pushing for something that could change your life for good is consistency. When you are trying to break a rock and you hit on a spot, you get an excellent result quick than hit randomly. Never mistake consistency for a disturbance. Because of how I grew, I could not even ask my brother for something for too long. I felt I was disturbing him and I was angry over minor things.

Consistency creates discipline and Success

Without discipline, you can never be successful. I had a decent amount of discipline. I knew how to plan, but it could not see the picture. No amount of luck can overtake proper planning. I don’t believe in luck. I believe that everyone needs to do something to get something. In the little Bible that I have read, God says, "He will bless the work on your hand", not hand you luck for nothing. Without consistency and good discipline, it could be hard for someone to be successful.

I haven’t seen Vincent since that year in the interview, but his simple sentence changed my life. And that is the most simple and the best advice I have even heard in my life. What is yours?

This is a good story. It never pays off to quit too soon. And I do agree with discipline. Without it, no project will succeed. Business or personal.

Not everybody is good to become a CEO and this saying of your reminds me of a favourite quote of mine from Jim Rohn. :never send your ducks to eagle school. The same goes with people. There are cases when you can't make from a person something they are not. A born leader will not be a follower, just like a follower will not be a leader. There must be a fire within someone to motivate them, to drive them, to push them beyond the comfort zone in order to achieve greatness.
