Praying mantis patience and persistence pays off

I spotted this beautiful predator (Stagmomantis libata) among my tomato plants today. I haven't seen a brown Praying Mantis in years and this fellow contrasted nicely with the green foliage under the bright AZ sun..20201008_1236051.jpg

Over the course of several minutes he slowly made his way along the vegitation.20201008_1236121.jpg

The next thing I notice is that it has captured a bright green grasshopper hidden among the leaves. Amazing eyesight or the mantis to have spotted and then snared the grasshopper in those spiked arms.20201008_123647.jpg

One less garden pest to worry about. Nice to see Mother Nature doing some "natural" pest control. Hopeully this beauty will hang around as there's plenty o grasshoppers for it to hunt.20201008_1237191.jpg

What an amazing blessing to get to find such nature and experience life in action.

Nature is both cruel and beautiful

I miss seeing them around our garden. We used to get babies each year, but they've been absent the last few years. I did finally see a gecko the other day again and I thought we'd lost them too.
