POLVO

POWDER

There was no way I was going to miss an Arlenne show. I had declared myself her number one fan, as I had been enchanted by her lilac eyes and gaze. There was no one else at her counter, just me reveling in her erotic dancing, until my time to stay there was up and I was pulled away by the gruff guards.

Every evening, after leaving for work, I would run impatiently to the interiors of that seedy street, and slip in blinks to be bathed in the neon lights of that brothel or place of entertainment for men.

Arlenne's turn was always later than the others, but always on time, so; after several drinks, I was preparing to feast my eyes on the angel who stole my attention.

Her magical, outstretched wings illuminated the entire space, overshadowing all the darkness of the place. She danced, smiled, sensually moved her arms and hips, wearing a fine silk that highlighted her unusually colored eyes. Suddenly she would stop and look at me for a long time, as if implanting a spell on me, then she would walk away and continue dancing; to the rhythm of whatever song she was put to.

As always and abruptly, every time Arlenne finished her third dance, the group of guards would grab me and throw me out into the street like a dog. They were used to the fact that I didn't pay enough to see her dance, it was a desperate situation.

One day, I couldn't take it anymore and decided to go through the ways of magic to fulfill my wish. San Jain is not a place to invoke good spells, so you have to be very careful. Motivated by my longings, I visited an old witch who promised me Arlenne's heart, but the magic of equivalence could not work without giving something in return of the same value; and worst of all, it was not money I was looking for.

The witch told me not to worry, for sooner or later, it would work itself out. Without much hope and not knowing what to expect, I heeded the woman's instructions and visited the brothel as I do every evening after work. I paid my entrance fee as usual and waited for Arlenne to show up again.

Once she showed up, I didn't take my eyes off her for a moment. I thought she looked more beautiful than ever, and I with my delighted smile approached her and with just a trace of my gaze she froze. She stepped down from her little dais and approached me; only a wall of glass stood between me and her. She moved her lips asking me to meet her after her show behind the venue, and as it was what she wanted I nodded affirmatively excited.

I waited for a while and she finally appeared, we were face to face for the first time, no glass or guards to get in the way. We slowly approached each other, I could savor that epic moment. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face just as she couldn't wipe hers, but before we touched for the first time, a cloud of dust suddenly appeared covering Arlenne and making her disappear before my eyes.

Terrified and confused, I was paralyzed, and I only heard the macabre laughter of the old witch echoing in my head: "A fair exchange," was the only thing she said. I ran from there, and never returned to the brothel or its surroundings. I mourned for quite some time over the loss of Arlenne and began to frequent other places of leisure to distract myself.

One afternoon, in my drunkenness, I passed by an urban avenue full of beautiful houses of middle class people, and in one of them, through a window, I could observe Arlenne, kissing another man with a baby in her arms. I was tricked by the witch, well, this is the consequence for not being able to pay.
