Dijo, y mi cuerpo empezó a estremecerse.

VISITORS

My brother and I witnessed a very particular event. We were children at the time, but I remember things better because I was always attentive to details. Our grandparents were hermetic people, who preferred the silence of nature to the noise of the city.

Once a month we would go to visit them, my father possessed that connection with nature more vigorously than my mother. He would talk to us about plants and trees, minerals and streams, all close to the depths of the forest where my grandparents chose to live.

He sounded more like a field guide than our own father, looking around as he drove down the road.

-Do you want to pay more attention to the road? -my mother said in an annoyed tone. There are a lot of holes in this road and I just put the baby to sleep. Referring to my sister, who was too young to remember these experiences.

-I'm sorry," my father replied, "I just get so excited coming here. Hey guys, are you as excited as I am?

My brother and I just smiled as we admired the scenery out the car window. We finally entered the road that would take us to our grandparents' house. I thought about hugging my grandmother and tasting her orange cake, which I have been looking forward to since our last visit.

As we glimpsed the cabin in the distance and crossed the small creek, both my brother and I felt a spirited excitement, however, quickly and suddenly, we were overcome with a sense of distress, noticing that something strange was going on.

The front door was open, my father parked the car and headed to the cabin to find out. After he went inside, we stood in suspense for a few minutes, until he finally came out with wild eyes and a pale face.

-Children, get out of the car now! -My mother ordered, and my brother and I obeyed.

-What's wrong? -I asked her. She froze for a few seconds staring at my father, who was also petrified.

-Something bad happened to your grandparents. She said, and my body began to shudder. -Don't worry children, we will find them.

My brother was as dumbfounded as I was, while my mother turned to my father and gave him a comforting hug, then they both entered the cabin and waved us inside.

We were very confused, but as we entered the cabin we felt immense dread. Everything was a mess, it was as if a fierce fight had been fought there. My father looked toward the horizon at the back door and whispered words that I could not perceive.

-Are the grandparents going to be all right? -I asked, no longer able to stand the anxiety.

-Of course they are, children! Don't worry, we are going to look for them. So stay here and take care of your little sister.

And without another word they left. They went into the forest at a fast pace, perhaps thinking the worst. My brother, who least understood what was happening, asked me questions that I could not answer, I just told him to stay calm; that our parents would appear soon.

Hours passed and we were still there; alone and disoriented. The baby woke up and started crying, so I tried to calm her down. Just as I was about to succeed, a noise from outside the cabin alerted me. I thought it was my parents, so I peeked out to look for them, but who I saw was not someone I knew.

It was two people, a man and a woman. Both young, very strangely dressed. They were dressed in black and the expressions on their faces were very serious. I took a few steps back and rejoined my brothers.

The strangers did not say anything, they simply approached us. I took my brother's hand and put my arm around him. I asked them questions and they didn't answer, their silence and attitudes made me more scared.

Suddenly through the door, my father appeared and hit one of the strangers on the head. The baby began to cry at the thunderous noise. Then my mother came and pointed a gun at the woman; my grandparents had finally appeared.

-Stop it! -My mother exclaimed, "You better get back in the loop or you'll see! -The stranger, because of the blow to the head, staggered, but was tackled by his companion. They both went through the closet door and stayed there for quite a while.

My mother went over and opened the door again, and we all realized that they were gone.

-Well. Said my dad only

-But what just happened? Who were those people? -I asked, as I was even more confused.

-Calm down, children, what you have just seen you will forget later. Mom explained. Indeed, hours after what happened, we began to calm down and forget.

How do I remember that day? Curiously, in a dream, stimulated by that memory, I saw my brother again as a child. Next to him was that strange woman who wanted to hurt us, then she appeared on the other side, the three of them seemed to be posing for a photograph.
