Music Community on Hive - Join Forces on the Blockchain

About "the" Music community

Fellow Hivers and Music fans - I created this music community already on the previous blockchain Steem to unite all lovers of music to have a group to share and engage around music of all genres. Given a lot content on the chain is just pushed out and lacks engagement I would love to change that a bit for the music community.

Your suggestions welcomed

What do you guys think could help to create more engagement here? I think we have already a good variety of sounds, of content types - what do you miss? What do you want to change or improve? All opinions are welcomed! I am also thinking of hiring folks here as moderator so feel free to drop in your application using hashtag #musicmod - thanks all for contributing and tell me your wished to make this community even more lively!

Asking other music communities for cooperation

One additional thought - why shall we not cooperate with other communities - for now we are split in various music groups - but music is such a great thing so we might simply work together to drive the beauty of this Art for the ears - feel also free to tag and list other music communities so we might discuss joint initiatives moving forward. I am tagging for now @edje and @slobberchops @atomcollector @theturtleproject @equaliser and @jaynie (for having a Creative Community that is driving a music initiative within the group as well). Happy to hear all your thoughts!

Song is one of my all-time favourite Trance sounds

Engagement generally seems down everywhere, it's not helping that HIVE is dithering at 21c when many other coins are increasing in value. There are too many small music communities that should merge, I did my part a while ago. I'm sure there are more out there.

yeah agree - either joining forces or in the name of the chain and coin prize success get rid of reward pool for content? We will see :-)

I'm a little depressed about the state of HIVE right now tbh, it all seems so stale.

Yep - I thing the chain is great, fast, secure - this platform thing is not helping to get investors - especially now we have Steem, Hive, Blurt and more to see - none of them is successful

Not to mention also Tsu and Voice will be coming on to challenge.

and of course requires professional marketing, that costs a bit, if we would be a comany someone decides on invest, as community naturally difficult - so either a BIG man or a community, frustrating a bit as decentralized and centralized both have their advantages in some cases

Our witnesses do not believe in the BIG man. Nobody takes up the challenge of running a startup business. Nobody is taking up the launch of some darn good service with HIVE as a chain, when access to the witnesses and the large stakeholders is darn difficult. I think only money rules, so when someone comes and buys a few million HIVE, then suddenly the whole community (including the power users and witnesses) is addressable. But why would someone invest that amount into HIVE?

I agree with you and someone did come along to invest in STEEM, a billionaire with capital to invest but we all know what happened there.

When you break it down, Hive is basically the underlying technology that allows people to build dapps on. It should be marketed to developers, then those dapps market to their end users.

If no-one steps up or believes in the "big man", then we have a problem because things will get stale, fast, like they have done, with a handful (maybe a couple of hundred out of the 3,500 active users) being active trying to promote on twitter but it's mostly an echo chamber.

With Hive code being open source, I just wonder if someone or company with deep pockets is watching this and will use the tech to drive their own vision forward with it all using the same rewards model or better iteration.

To some extent, you need a leader/driver to take things forward - Steemit created the tech and were the lead developers but Steem was just a poorly managed operation, which is a shame. Where are we going with Hive?

To some extent, you need a leader/driver to take things forward

This is what I am talking about since we have Hive - de-centralized and community driven sounds great but....

You can have both though, that's the thing. Something can still be community driven with feedback from users and the lead developers/owners can act on it with the resources they have.

Absolutely agree! I think we shall have both, instead of we can have both. No open source project became a success, other than a few linux versions. But at some point in time it was Redhat leading the pack...Why? Because they had a support model around their open source software so companies could rely on maintenance of the software. HIVE has no such thing, and therefore no serious app developer / company will use HIVE. Not as long as the chain can be taken over by others. Not as long the witnesses are what they are, but too little involved in creating the eco-system. Not as long we still have outages (not sure if it is the chain, or it are the dApps); No business critical system can use a framework that is not 100% stable. Not as long anarchy is the name of the game. Not as long a few whales more-or-less own HIVE distribution including our proposal system. At least a governance structure shall be created that 1) drives development, innovation and all business aspects 2) involve the community in decision making. Yes, we have a governance system already, but it has major flaws. We need more 'central' bodies, call them institutions. Methods exists to make sure these are not the new controlling bodies managed by only a few. Companies managed by not only managers, but also its employees is experimented with a lot and proved to be successful in eg the last financial crisis (no bankruptcies at all, employees feel heard, everybody took a step back to survive with the company). Brasilian Ricardo Semler is a big advocate of such all-inclusive companies and help setting up many of them.

Wondering when those who run our chain, and our whales will see the light.

I really can't add anything to this, there aren't any nails left to hit on the head haha!

Companies managed by not only managers, but also its employees is experimented with a lot and proved to be successful

I see this with the company I work at and there's always constant feedback happening between employees (users) and the management. Everyone is approachable and ideas get discussed with the senior leadership team - it works really well and everyone feels a part of the picture.

Hahahaha, sorry for not leaving any nails. Anarchism is over rated; but that cant be voice in our community. But the combination of self management and collective management (which requires some form of leadership) is possible.

Great your company has their employees inclusive, they did certainly took a step towards the future. The company I ended up with not too long ago, is super traditional, with a few middle management layers who don't want to get bypassed by the workers... ie virtual teams are possible, but any form of decision making is done at middle management level without the specialist or topic owners in the meeting when decisions are made. Over time they will learn they will fall behind the market with such rigid approach.

My philosophy is: Best run companies are those without middle management; management as in managers. There could be a set of coaches, and leads (like in Agile and DevOps kinda structures, we have the chapter leads), but everybody shall be responsible for its own set of tasks and that same person will deal with whoever to get the job done, whether it be a direct team colleague, some other team colleague, or even the CEO.

It would be so good when all the witnesses and whales would have their own walkin sessions. But they dont. I dont understand why not. But they simply dont.

Totally agree that we should all work together to promote music on Hive. There are simply not enough of us on Hive at the moment.

I remember the buzz in the early days on STEEM with dsound and Open Mic but there doesn't seem to be anyone to create the same excitement on Hive right now that I have noticed anyway.

True - many seem gone, however even in the high times of Steem I always felt music was not as present vs. other content. You do great stuff already with your game.

Agree with the Slobberchops, engagement is down across the board. I also think the novelty, the hype we had for a few months is gone. Though reward distribution is a little better now, nothing really changed to our previous 'world'. But let us not fall into the trap of trying to figure why HIVE is what HIVE is. Working together between communities is definitely something we shall try. Uwe, as proposed some time ago, we can think of challenges that brings in other communities. Maybe we shall create versions that let the contestant go to some other community to figure something out to get to the answer. Something simple, but get the users to do something and move around the communities we like them to move around in.

Another way of increasing engagement is through comment voting. I think at least. Votes must be good though, and given to comments that adds value.

What helps tremendously, is to write comments to some other peoples post; From many of them I receive responses. This activity takes time, a lot of time in comparison with rewards and all (which are usually zero :)): Reading the post and when it contains music, listening the song/track; Then write some genuine comment which entices the users (and others) to respond and maybe even try and continue the conversation by linking in questions and all.

Yesterday I noticed I'm kinda at the bottom of the Engagement League list of abh12345, but my comment length is out-of-range. 16k characters across 20 comments, resulting in an average of about 800 characters per comment, which is about 4 Tweets. Guess that may help to get some reaction from somebody :)

Currently I am developing few things in background e.g. a Community Hub, which also has Hive integrated. But I like to tell you more about that later. 😎

I was thinking to deploy a sidechain for that application. So why not doing the same here? In the future we can use smart contracts for specific rewardings on contests and so on 🤗. And we could generate our own market value with an own application but nevertheless being active on hive.

The next thing is, I really would like to have a chat platform like Discord. I have done the same for the Bass Music Community, but which is not public yet.

The Hub I was talking about will has a chat component, but this will take time. So meanwhile it would be great to have an organization telegram group or a discord or slack server this various channels. 🙂

ah ok, got ya - sorry for late reply. When you create a pos you can usually decide whether you post on your blog or in a community (given you follow the certain community) - you can also tick to post in community and blog all in one. Depends on the UI you use.

If I can be of any help on how hit me on Discord or reply here- good to have you back @tygertyger

Sure simply go to "create post" and then you see a popup where you can decide to post to your blog or to communities you follow. When you for example select music community you can see on the right this button whether you wanna post only in community or also on your blog (yes or no) Check the visuals below:

Hey dude - what guidance do you need exactly? For music community simply create a post around music (you performing, about your fav music or what you love - but should be original content) and post it to the community.

That's a really great set up! How could I convert my #boombox into a community page? I want to get as much exposure to artists and their fans and quickly as possible. Right now, I use my three profile to share all sounds in the tag, having a full on page as well would rock though!

Thx, that is nice - I have to admit I need to research again how to create a community again.

Actually when you use the peakd interface go to:

https://peakd.com/communities

On the right you see a blue "+" - click this and create a community which requires a new account.

I'm not sure I'll fit with this. But I am going to start producing my music podcast again. It's called NTROradio and will feature 2-3 artists/bands in each weekly episodes. Because I like to give each artist their own post I will be posting those through out the week. So probably close to 2- 5 artist posts per week. Plus the podcast episode. I assume that one will go on Aureal's community.

If it's ok with you all, I'll have the first one post in the morning here. All I gotta do is change it in the draft.

Is there a place we can go to to stream music on the Hive blockchain? I started using Audius.co instead of Pandora, but I would rather use something that is connected to Hive. Anyone know of anything in development or launched? I love listening to music at work, and I want to contribute to the community anyway I can.

Back in the Steemit days my music community #BOOMBOX started thriving. Anyone with audio in their post will get free shares from my three profiles. Now that we're re-branding on Hive, it's launched again. Can we connect on Discord or something? I'd like to share ideas with you

Formed in 2018,
The Tone Travelers Band is a project comprised of American multi-instrumentalists, vocalists and songwriters Bill Martin and Monique Canniere. The fresh effort of the band is HOT - some of the best musicians back them including Tim Kolber, Andre Canniere, and Frank Maione.

I wave my hand to all of you!

It is always pleasant to realize that there are so many creative people who are united by music, we are all so different and interesting people, from different parts of the world, and together we make the music community better and leave our mark in music. You came up with a great idea of collaborating with other communities, this will give us the opportunity to discover new names, highlight their uniqueness and highlight their creativity. I think everyone will be happy if there is more communication on various topics, more discussions, more attention to each other, this will give rise to new collaborations in music. I regularly patrol the blockchain in search of talented artists who go unnoticed and underestimated, this is important for me and for all of us, I will gladly take part as a sniper and manual curation of content. I believe that it is very important that all this flourish and develop!

Thanks a lot @uwelang!

Only forward! Оnly up!

This post is awesome. It's so cool that you're driving engagement and encouraging different communities and individual musicians to collaborate.

I joined @Ecency about two months ago, after a large amount of persuasion from my partner @ZakLudick. I am a musician and social media enthusiast and I must say, just using these tools to try to reach a wider audience or to engage with other musicians has been pretty bleak and discouraging.

The community spirit here and so many of the other groups is absolutely mind bogglingly cool. I can't believe I wasted so many years and so much effort on platforms that simply don't give back.

Since I've joined @Ecency, I have been blogging, which I thoroughly enjoy, but the biggest motivator was for me to start sharing my music. I've been a bit nervous, up till now and not sure what to post 1st, but I guess I'll start at the very beginning. It's a very good place to start 😉✨💖

Music has become quite scattered on the Blockchain. There are many great projects trying to get off the ground. Working together will give success for all. Artists should no longer be in competition. There is a niche for everyone.
Let's make some big things happen!!!

I'm new but also love music, I'm heavy into mind numbing bass lines more than anything but lyrics that motivate me and give me energy are also fun, especially once with a bit of bounce music elements (NoLa(New Orleans) native music type) . other than playing rising star how would I get started?

What I read in your post it echoes strongly with the thoughts of my main music community (Electronic Music Alliance). We've done all we can to get more engagement with our music.
The main issues we encounter are compounded by the fact that approximately 14 people in every 1000 have a song on Spotify. In this day and age, even if you're an aboslutel musical genius with bags of appeal, you need to do way more to get your name or brand out there. I've seen some artists really put themselves out their in a multitude of ways just to get poeple lookign at them. It's not uncommon to see rock musicians drum up attention by streaming video games for crying out loud!
In reality, for an indie to make a living from their music, they need to have a sserious repertoire of skills. I myself have grown adept at making digital artwork, videography, onstage performance tools, synthesizer patches, mix and mastering etc.
Most artists rely on social media which, to be fair, is tantamount to demolishing a skyscraper with a pickaxe, sure i guess you might find the right spot but chances are you'll still be swinging well into your twilight years.
My opnion on the best way for an indie musician to gain a following? Touring. You have to put yourself where the people are, in a situation where it's harder to ignore you. There's no skip button on the stage and scrolling past means physically leaving. If you don't suck and there's beer going around then chaces are a few folk will drunk buy you're music, trust me it happens (guilty).
Failing that the best advice i can offer is not to copy anyone. The other day a friend sent me a sound he made from scratch along with some drums and a simple drawn out bass. I asked him where the melody was and he was perplexed. So many artists use cool sounds to create song but have little to no actual instruments which is perfectly fine so long as you're at a drug fueled hardcore rave where folks just want to bounce off the walls. I told him that if he wants an audience he has to captivate them and the best way to do that is with an emotive sequence, grab a piano and print something you like, something that moves you personally. All my best sellers have had a solid melody with thought and care applied on a per note basis.

Anyway apologies for rambling. I would love to be part of another community and I find they work best when they band together on a project, like a themed compilation release, it's a good way to rally everyone. Drop me a tag when you get up and running and i'll look in.

This is just an addition to what others said
,I think to make all of the ideas work very effectively , we really need to grouped on discord channel , whereby chatting very well to know ourselves and I know this this for sure that more people would join and through that there would be a lot of engagement, in addition, all activities would be concluded and also in the discord channel created , there would be a lot of things to spice up people morals and I am very sure they would always look forward to make and engagement.

Note: it is just a suggestion, thank you.
