Avoid the Fool's Labour

avatar

Compliment friends.

While taking today's dose of reading on investment, money and wealth, my heart glued to a scripture quoted by the author and it formed the inspiration of this post. Let's continue...

The labour of fools frustrate them because they don't know how to get to the city - The Holy Bible (Ecclesiastes 10: 15)

These very words of Solomon, the wisest man that ever lived according to Bible history. Reasoning on the lines of that scripture reminded me of my past investment adventures that went abyss and I would agree with Solomon that a fool's labour is frustrating.

Who is a Fool?

Bruce Lee is alluded to saying that a fool is the person that is so ignorant to the extent that he fails to identify his ignorance. This simply means that foolishness is a self inflicted problem. The victim is ignorant but thinks he knows. This would hinder him from asking questions and seeking the help of those who know better than he does.

There is surely the guarantee of safety in the company of good counsels. That is why one of the rule of thumb in cryptocurrency investment as I was taught is "Do Your Own Research (DYOR). This simply implies asking questions about a project or asset one intends to invest on, so you can gather sufficient information to take decisions.

Sad, many of us invest by emotions. This brings in the ideation of FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubts) and FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) unto the picture of investment. I never heard those words in my Study of economics and finance in traditional school. I heard them for the first in crypto investment. Hence, since then, I have applied them in all of my investment adventures.

Any investment in ignorance would be correctly correlated with a fool's labour and hard work which keeps him rotating round a spot without a tangible work. The fool does not KNOW the way to the gate. The gate is where we market our skills and products. That is where sellers meet buyers and those in need of services meet the skilled. But the fools ignorance would hide the way to the gate.

How free is Knowledge?

The advances in technology has made th access to information quite easier. From web2 to web3 alternatives, we can gather as much information we desire from a subject at finger's snap. Today, we write on Hive to earn money, some of the things we write, we do not do.

Hive blockchain for me is first a place of learning and then every other thing follows. The bait that brought me here was actually a place I could learn for free and it still remains. Or may be I should say a place I learn to be paid. Avail yourself to read and learn at least a post a day that adds value in any choice knowledge area. That's why we have lots of communities to engage.

Knowledge is free to those who are humble enough to ask but to the fools who won't, knowledge would always come with a fee, sometimes too high to be paid, yet with many accompanying losses.

Had I known...

"Had I known..." is the words that follow an informed decision. Those words often makes the victim feel at ease over a bad decision he should take full responsibility. Those words are used as a cover. It should actually read "had I sought to know..." Nothing is as free as knowledge but that only holds valid for the person who wants to know.

The words "had I known" are quite avoidable in today's world, only of we agree that we're all ignorant folks for a time as long as we do not ask questions.

Final Words

As we start up this new year, knowledge should be a priority. All we do should follow all we know. Else, we may only labour as fools and end up with avoidable frustrations. Let learning precede earning.

If I had to choose another topic for this write, it would have been "Invest with Sense, Invest with Knowledge". My choice of "Avoid the fool's labour" is to help everyone dive in and learn as the truth it communicates goes beyond financial investment.
