hello crocheters, after making my first every project by creating a bernie using the backloop single crochet pattern which really took most of my yarn, I had to process in learning the half double crochet which is the next part so I can advance in to other project since it is more easier and do take less yarn than single crochet. Understanding the pattern wasn't that easy as i thought since it is my first time, imagine yarning over and forgetting which stitch to put the hook because everything kind of look too tight to each other, well at the end I figured it out, my plan was to even crochet my own laptop bag or cover at least something to appreciate myself with since my sister took the beanie already. Today I got a task from my teacher to make a bookmark ( the crochet version).

What I used

Crocheting hook(3.5mm)
navy blue and creamy yarn
A pair of scissors
Yarn needle.

I decide to make a star stitch pattern for the bookmark which i once saw while researching on various crocheting pattern. I made 47 chains as my foundation immediately after making a slip knot ( it is best to use odd chains for this kind of pattern), I skip the first chain and inserted the hook with the first loop into the second chain and pull it out but didn't yarn over (in single crochet way), I insert it into the 3-5 chain then pull up so as to get 6 loop on my hook, then I pull through all the loops then chain one. just like the image below, forming the rest of the chain was kind of tricky

The 6 loop we made previously before chain one, you insert the hook in the middle of the star, then yarn over to make the second loop, insert the hook into the 6th stitch of the curve loop and yarn over to make the 3rd loop, insert into the same chain that you make the curve stitch, it is right beside where you made the recent 3rd loop, that will give you the 4th loop, then the next two chain to get the 5th and 6th loop then yarn over and pull through to get the next star, so you continue this pattern till you reach the end with just one chain left, on the last chain, make a half double crochet into it, if you check it you will see a pattern with holes in it just like the image below

Then chain twice and turn it over to make the next row, in this aspect we will be working on the center (holes) of the star stitches and I made half double crochet twice into each hole till the every end, there will be a last chain at the end of the row, make 2 half double crochet into it also and then slip stitch to make a long chain of your choice as the tail (the 3 baby sister shape)

Making a bookmark can be helpful especially when reading, whenever I'm yet to finish a book page, i can easily place it in between so as to note the page I stop. I already had someone interested in it so I decided to make an extra one so as to make it stick incase I wish to make more of it in future. like they use to say practice make perfection. My crochet lecture still continues and since my mentor was really impress with my progress so far, she decided we will be taking a step further and learn how to create my own designs, then maybe i will be able to start my laptop bag projects.

I love these crochet bookmarks, some time ago I made some similar ones for a baptism souvenir. Thanks for sharing!
