Tanya and Ben's High Caffeine Date | Theatrical play

(Edited)

Title of the play: "Tanya and Ben's High Caffeine Date"

Theme: The awkward performance of two young adults as they prepare for their first date and what the excess of coffee ingested due to nervousness caused in them.

Genre: Comedy and life stories.

Author: Valeria Valentina Anzola.

Characters in the play:

  • Narrator (male voice)
  • Tanya (female)
  • Ben (male)

Environment and scenery

The play consists of two acts:

The first act takes place in two adjacent spaces separated by a slight wall, this is because two scenes are happening at the same time where the protagonists are in their respective homes having a comedy monologue with dramatic overtones about the nerves they feel because of their first date. For the set design we would need basic household furniture, sofas, tables, chairs, mirrors and things like that.

The second act consists of Tanya and Ben meeting in the cafeteria they chose for their first date. In this case the scenario would be a single one and the decoration would need furniture and objects that allude to a dining place such as tables, chairs, plates, cups, a menu and other things.

Now it's time for the narrator.

Narrator: Tanya and Ben are two slightly awkward young adults who met at a work reunion held by their respective companies. Tanya has not been working in her company for long but Ben has and since their eyes locked they made an automatic click, possibly their senses detected that they are similar individuals and not only that, they may be clumsy, but they have their appeal.

Ben was fascinated by Tanya's wavy brown hair, her big smile was one of those that generated a lot of friendliness, Tanya, on the other hand, felt great attraction for Ben's small green eyes, since they looked like the eyes of a kind person. Very awkwardly the two introduced themselves.

Several days passed, Tanya and Ben became close friends and since they worked close to each other, they would meet during their breaks to have a delicious coffee, as they were both fans of this drink and they both loved the coffee that was sold in a small store close to their jobs. Ben also started giving Tanya different desserts to go with her coffee, which made her very happy.

Five months passed and it was obvious that what Tanya and Ben had was more than a friendship, they knew it from the beginning. Ben was already anxious to formally confess his love to Tanya but he decided to take the courage and make the leap. He chose to invite her to lunch at a beautiful cafeteria that the two had seen from outside on a casual after work outing, there Ben would confess his feelings and ask Tanya to be his girlfriend.

Tanya really liked Ben, so in her mind she had been waiting for that invitation for quite some time, so when Ben invited her she didn't hesitate to accept.

They would meet on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.

The day arrived. Saturday 1:00 p.m.

First act

Tanya: (She walks around her home nervously, there are still two hours before her date with Ben, but she already feels like her heart is about to burst. She feels anxious, she hasn't gone out on a date for a while and she doesn't know how to get ready for the occasion, many things are going through her mind) - Will I look good with a formal black short and a purple blouse?, maybe not... but I don't want to look too produced... I wonder, what will happen today?, will Ben ask me out?, if he does that I might faint.

-Would I faint?, I hope not, it's obvious that I would say yes if he ask me. (Tanya begins to do little happy jumps and starts to get dressed)

-I'm sure Ben will look great today. (After getting dressed, Tanya decides to have a cup of coffee to calm her anxiety, but she doesn't notice that she poured too much)

Narrator: 1:30 p.m.

Ben: (He is sitting uneasily on a sofa while his legs move very quickly, he can't stop thinking, but he decides to get up to fix himself properly) - I wonder if these clothes are ok?, Tanya is beautiful, everything looks good on her, she doesn't have to try hard...

-I feel very nervous, I'm afraid of not using the right words...(Ben in his nervousness decides to pour himself a cup of coffee, but like Tanya, he poured too much).

Narrator: 2:20 p.m.

Tanya: (Ready to leave, but because of the cup of coffee she is overly stimulated) - My God, I think I've had too much coffee, but I should be going out now... Oh God, I hope everything goes well...

Narrator: 2:30 p.m.

Ben: (After drinking his coffee, he brushed his teeth and left the house quickly to get there before Tanya) - God... what did I do? I had too much coffee and now I feel even more uneasy...

Second act

Narrator: 3:00 p.m.

Tanya and Ben were on time for their date (Ben arrived 5 minutes early). When they both saw each other they noticed that they were both excited and uneasy, they couldn't stop moving, after greeting each other they sat down.

Tanya: - How embarrassing, I had a cup of coffee before I left, that's why I'm like this (Tanya was ashamed).

Ben: - You too?, I did the same (Ben laughed in relief).

Narrator: After laughing, Tanya and Ben looked at each other with complicity, they realized that they were made for each other and that everything would work out fine. In fact, they were so particular that even though they had coffee, they decided to order two more.

The End

It was an interesting take on the play:)

I had my doubts about writing it that way, but I think it turned out decent.🤭

Hello friend, I really liked this great work of these loves and how a drink as simple as coffee, both fascinated them and united them in such a simple way. Besides a date, a moment to clarify their things and take a step further and they could not be calm because of the amount of caffeine in their bodies hahahahah. What happened when they left that coffee shop? Nice reading you and thanks for sharing it with us.

I found it interesting because of the way you divided the scenes due to the acts, apart from the timed way. It turns out really wonderful. I think I would bet on falling in love in a play like this, of course, as long as I can have a cup of coffee at the end with the person I'm with or really love. Romance is the most wonderful thing. : )

I hope it was clear, I did it that way so that the times could be better understood.😊

It turns out really wonderful.

I'm glad to read that!💕

Right? the environment can generate intimate feelings with the person you are with.🤭

Romance is the most wonderful thing. : )

It's really beautiful!😁

Plays are hard to write, aren't they? I like the way you go into detail explaining the setting first.

It made me laugh though - imagine being so nervous on a first date you have coffee, which makes you worse!! A cup of chamomile tea and some meditation might be a better option, haha...

You were descriptive about the setting where the play takes place, and that's nice.
And then, the nerves of that first date:)
Best of luck in the contest!

I'm glad you thought that it was nice, I didn't know if my format would be clear to understand or good enough. 😆😊

Thank you very much!💕

Nerves and coffee, it seems that it is not a good combination, but in the end only the person who understands you is the one who rewards you.

I liked your presentation, so descriptive and funny; like an American romantic comedy. Good idea.

Definitely not the best combination, but those two are particular individuals. The good thing is that as you say, they understand each other. 🤭😆

I'm glad you liked my way of presenting the play my friend!, I had my doubts.😊

So fresh, nice and easy to read, ideal to go out on a Sunday to see a play like this and as there is no choice at least we settle for reading it.

Good job!

Such a sweet story. They are both lovely characters and you know, I actually 'heard' Ben's voice. It was a great play honestly.

Sweet as love💕

They are both lovely characters and you know, I actually 'heard' Ben's voice.

Yes, I think those types of characters are usually likable and, how cool that you imagined Ben's voice!

It was a great play honestly.

Thanks, it makes me happy to read that!
