I have plenty of achievements in my life. I think one of the biggest achievements was obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in Education major in English in 2012. All of this started in 2007, when I was writing the special report to graduate from High School, one of my friends asked me if I was going to take the admission test to study the education career and I said no because I did not have money for that. This happened in front of the teacher who was correcting our report.

Tengo muchos logros en mi vida. Creo que uno de los mayores logros fue obtener mi título en Educación, Mención inglés en el 2012. Todo empezó en 2007, cuando estaba escribiendo el proyecto de grado de bachillerato, uno de mis amigos me preguntó si iba a hacer el examen de admisión para estudiar la carrera de educación y le dije que no porque no tenía dinero para eso. Esto sucedió frente a nuestra profe que estaba corrigiendo nuestro informe.

Even the university was a public one, we had to pay for the admission test because there were some charges to be covered such as the paper used for the tests, the facilities, and the staff in charge of the supervision, all about logistic matters. The teacher at that moment raised her head and said: “Come tomorrow, I will give you money for the test.” I said: “no teacher, I won’t do that” and she warned me: “If you do not come tomorrow, I will make you fail in your report” and she winked her eye.

Si bien la universidad era pública, teníamos que pagar la prueba de admisión porque había que cubrir algunos cargos como el papel que se usaba para las pruebas, las instalaciones y el personal a cargo de la supervisión, todo en materia de logística. La profe en ese momento levantó la cabeza y dijo: “Ven mañana, te daré dinero para la prueba”. Le dije: “no profe, no voy a hacer eso” y ella me advirtió: “Si no vienes mañana, te reprobaré en el informe” y me guiñó el ojo.

I was flabbergasted! Thanks to that high school teacher, I could take the test, and I was admitted to the university in the career I wanted. All of this happened before I had finished my high school studies. In fact, I did not go to my graduation ceremony because it was the same day as a technical test I took after my admission.

¡Estaba atónita! Gracias a la profe, pude hacer el examen y fui admitida en la universidad en la carrera que quería. Todo esto sucedió antes de que terminara el bachillerato. De hecho, no asistí a mi acto de grado porque era el mismo día de una prueba psicotécnica que debía presentar después de mi admisión.

I promised the teacher who trusted me to finish my studies on time. Once I was at the university, I did my best and I covered the expenses selling bracelets I made with Swarovski and taking part-time jobs such as working in the park on the weekends or on vacation to be able to pay for the books because they were really expensive for me and my parents did not have that money to help me out with this. For all of this, I think my biggest achievement in life was getting my Bachelor’s Degree because I was persistent and even thought I had many circumstances against me, I never gave up. So, today, I want to thank for this, for this great achievement I could have.

Le prometí a la profe que me dio su voto de confianza, que terminaría mis estudios sin perder el tiempo. Una vez que estuve en la universidad hice siempre me esforcé y cubrí los gastos propios de ser estudiante vendiendo pulseras que hice con Swarovski y tomando trabajos a tiempo parcial como trabajar en el parque los fines de semana o de vacaciones para poder pagar los libros porque eran muy costosos para mí y mis padres no tenían ese dinero para ayudarme con eso. Por todo esto, creo que mi mayor logro en la vida fue obtener mi licenciatura porque fui persistente y aunque pensé que tenía muchas circunstancias en mi contra, nunca me rendí. Así que hoy, quiero agradecer por ello, por este gran logro que pude obtener.
