Battle Mage Secrets: Broken Arrow - Know What You Face

Prelude
Hi all, hope all is well for you and it is time for another Battle Mage Secrets. Last week, the ruleset that we discussed is heavily against melee attackers where attack will get returned. This week the ruleset that we will be discussing locks out range attackers.

Broken Arrow

Description:
Units with ranged attacks cannot be used.
Units with 2 types of attack (which include ranged) cannot be used.

Consider utilizing units with Thorns or Magic Reflect, as your opponent will have to use either melee or magic units.

What thrives with this ruleset?
Ok, before we look at what thrives, remember not to use these following abilities as it will be not yield anything. Abilities such as Return Fire and Headwinds that affect only range cards should not be used.

Next, since we know that both lineups will comprise of melee and magic attackers, key will be to know what to put up to benefit us and defend against them.

On the attack front, abilities such as Inspire to boost the frontline attack and sneak/snipe/opportunity to take out important cards in opponent lineup are good considerations. Also, ambush will be nice which might be able to help you take out opponent cards right before the match start. Another thing though not directly on the attack stats per say, but Swiftness is something worth considering so that you hit first before your opponents do because magic attacker tend to be on the slower end. You will want to be the first to strike and win it before your opponent do.

Next, we will discuss on the defensive front. As suggested above, Magic Reflect and Thorns are really great abilities to bring into this match. Next will be abilities such as Void, Void Armour and Phase to handle magic attackers and Shield,Flying and Dodge to handle melee attackers. Some additional considerations could include Protect to boost armour and also the Void Armour.

In terms of stats, no special call outs. The higher of each stat will make your winning odds higher.

With these in mind, let's start to talk about the battle proper.

Prediction before pressing rumble
I think this will come in my favour due to the sheer speed difference between our teams but I cannot be overly confident especially when I see Quora in my opponent's lineup. Let's battle.

Battle Synopsis

Round 1, Close to a no casualty round with my sneakers trying their best to take out Quora. Terrcaeous Hulk took out Mycelic Morphoid in a single blow but it resurrects due to the ruleset.

Round 2, Katrelba smashes home on Quora before Dhampir Infiltrator takes out the revived one with a double strike on his own. Morphoid gets another blow by the Hulk. With Quora out, time to shred the rest.

Round 3, In this round Hulk settles the front while my sneakers handled Dumacke Orc. Orc was revived but should be settled next turn. Hill Giant fell twice so no we face the Mycelic Infantry.

Round 4, This turn Dumacke Orc fully fell. And we are down to the last two cards to settle.

Round 5, Shredding from the back continues with Thane Newsong also dying twice with the double strike barrages. Last card to go.

Round 6, The two sneakers started the smashing and wraps it up in swift fashion. Victory secured!

Post Battle Summary
Overcoming Quora, woohoo! Not often there is such an opportunity, but here we are seeing the victory with a little tweak to our lineup to get a little more advantage. Definitely a good win into my records.

Did my strategy work? Yes it did. Everything went as planned, from the decision to use Katrelba instead of Quora, everything else in the team complement one another to see the victory in a swift manner. Sufficient protection and tanking supported with boosted speed and melee attacker, then 2 sneak attackers wrecking havoc.

What's the Battle Mage Secret?

Knowing the characteristic of the cards that you will face in rulesets is an important aspect of card selection. Since there is no range attackers, we are highly likely to be facing melee and magic attackers. This therefore tells us that we are likely going to face cards of slightly lower speed. This is where we apply the secret of outwitting opponent with a pool of fast attackers boosted by Swiftness.

The speed came from both my summoner and Clockwork Aide. Then the taunt from Terraceous Hulk diverted all the attack away from my sneakers for them to punish the backline fast. Quora was taken out early in round 2 even when there is resurrection.

Therefore, the secret I am sharing today is, know what our opponent likely to play, think a little harder and outwit them.
