Alpine training hike to Muratov peak
Hi there Hive Family,
This weekend was full of emotions and adrenaline as we wanted to gain some training experience in an alpine style. We have never done that before so we just wanted to try out a section of the region and see how it goes.
It was early morning and the sunrise greeted us. Here we see some thermal ower plants in one of our villages.
Amazing car shots from Pirin mountain and its white coat.
The city of Bansko. The peak in front of us is called Todorka.
This was the furthest we could go with the car. We stopped close to a camper zone.
Lodge Vihren where the actual hike is supposed to start, is an hour and a half away walking time. We passed through several ski slopes and lift stations. During winter season, it is impossible to maintain a road to the Lodge because of the ski slopes.
On this image we can see peak Vihren, the highest in Pirin mountain and the Djamdjiev ridge.
We managed to get to Lodge Vihren. There was enough footsteps on the way so we did not have too much trouble traversing the terrain.
Here we can see the surroundings. The Lodge is currently out of service. We could only enter the main hall to get warm. It stands on 1972 meters high.
Time to start the real hike.
Wim Hof Method maybe? Well, I do not think it is the right time for that :D :D :D
We are almost at Muratov Lake, where we will see the peak itself. The mountain panorama in the distance is Rila.
Here we are, Muratov peak in front. We also caught up with another group of people who only wanted to reach the lake and then ski their way back to the Lodge. The lake is the frozen basin floor that is white and clean as a slate.
Interesting event happened. While preparing the ski for action, one of them escaped and slided all the way to the center of the lake 😨 What to do? Well, because of the snowshoes, one the the guys just walked to the center to pick up the ski. Luckily, no accidental Wim Hof Method was performed.
We continued our way towards the peak. We wanted to see what it is going to reveal to us.
Very beautiful, yet horrifically dangerous. We knew that we have to be extra cautious.
We put on our crampons and the real adventure began. It was an adrenaline rush, we felt invigorated and refreshed. No tiredness, only clear mind and energy flowing through our veins.
We reached this summit point where we decided that this was enough for today and headed back. We were so happy about this climb. Amazing experience.
It was about time to go, as it was the late afternoon anyways. The views were spectacular.
We descended the more technical sections backwards and the easier ones normally. No issues there. The snow was firm and very good to step into. The Sun contributed to less freezing and the other people tracks were more prevalent. All in all, perfect conditions for alpine training.
We caught the sunset on our way back to the car, although an enclosed one.
As always, thank you for checking out my blog :)
Stay happy, be peaceful!
