Before visiting the Paria peninsula, the only reference I had about it was that it had been named "Land of Grace" by the conquerors and that its climate was more temperate than the usual aridity of my hometown. It was surprising for me to find pristine landscapes full of vibrant and vigorous green, and with residents who were as friendly as if they had known me all their lives.

What can I tell you about Paria? It rains a lot, of course, however, this is not a bad thing, on the contrary, it is necessary for the region to have its characteristic greenness. There are all kinds of plants, but, without a doubt, the most emblematic of the entire peninsula are cocoa, which is used to make the delicious chocolate that we eat where I live, and coconut, which, to be honest, I don't like.

Every minute I spent there, admiring nature, was like being in the Garden of Eden, inhaling the pure mountain air, however, all these wonders are overshadowed by the hardships experienced by the population: a situation of widespread poverty, domination of criminal gangs and the terrible and constant fear of feeling that something bad could happen at any moment. I experienced this in Güiria, where it was the villagers who told me to take care of myself and on the door of the parish church I found a large poster about the prevention of human trafficking.

In Irapa, on the other hand, I had the opportunity to coincide with the patron saint festivities presided over, civilly, by the Citizen Mayor of the Mariño Municipality and, religiously, by His Excellency the Bishop of Carúpano. I could see there the joy of this town, which despite every difficulty, continues to celebrate. Regarding the fair that they held at night, I have to say that there were a lot of people, as if the whole town had gathered there in the church square.
