“You said you’re a blogger, right?” She asked.

“Yes ma,” I replied.

“So how much do you make a day?” She asked.

“Well, it depends on how many views my content gets, so there is no specific amount”, I replied.

“ I know that, but I want a fixed amount, like how much do you make?” She asked with a smile.

“Well, like i said there’s no specific amount, but there’s a potential for me to get a range of #10,000 to #20,000 if people view my content and find it engaging", I replied .

“Ahhhh!” The H.R exclaimed, “But you do know we have a salary scale. We don't wan't a situation whereby a person will be receiving more than others as a starter".

“I think you should tell him what the company’s salary scale is”, she said to the H.R.*

“No”, she replied, “We’ll send you a message and um’ if you do feel the salary is not okay then you can turn the job offer down but we strongly believe that you’re here because you love your profession and you want to work with us”.

“Yes, I do love my profession and I believe this company is great for me even as I look forward to helping the company improve with my skill sets.", I said.

“That’s okay”, the h.r replied, “we’re glad you see it that way and um’ we really like your confidence, your charisma, and how well you’ve spoken." and we hope everything works well."

“Thank you so much, ma,” I replied, with a bright look on my face. “I look forward to working with this company.”

“That’s okay," the HR replied, “have a nice day."

I was so over the moon because I thought I had nailed the job. Afterall they were impressed with my performance and to be honest I was proud of myself. I was going home to meet my elder sister with confidence and joy in my heart, to tell her how the interview went. after all having a job in Victoria Island is not easy.

Everything was perfect. I told my sister everything, and she said the amount I mentioned was too little considering the fact that other expenses would take a lot of my salary but to my surprise I did not get the job.

Why? You may ask. Well, they said considering the amount i make in a day, it will be imposible for them to pay me. It was baffling because they refused to tell me the company's salary scale even when i asked and also when the H.R was asked to tell me what the salary scale is.

Now at this point some thoughts were running through my mind and that’s when I came to understand that being self-employed or having a business is the best option ever.

I won’t dismiss the fact that some people love working in regular jobs, but from what I've learnt, I do believe that being self-employed is way better in the long term. So in this post we’ll be looking at 7 reasons why you are better off being self-employed. Let’s ride.

1. It Is an Avenue to Build Your Dreams

If everyone has the courage to really do what they want to do in life then very few people would be left in regular 9-5 jobs. The truth is this. Whenever you make a decision to work for a company then you’re assisting them to build their dream not yours.

There are tons of people who have worked their ass off only for them to be laid off for a slight mistake they made.

Imagine spending a lot of years in a company trying to build it up then covid steps in and you’re laid off. What next? That’s the question you have to answer for yourself. But when you take the self-employed route then u know it is your dream and you’re the one that’s going to build it. Every sweat is worth it.

2. You Have Control Over Your Life

Let’s face it. As an employee, your time, your opinions, your decisions and your life are literally controlled by your boss. They’ll squeeze every juice from you. And the worst of it all is the fact that you might not be granted permission to attend to important emergency issues.

As an entrepreneur, You have the freedom and power to shape your present and future for yourself and your family. You determine the hours you work, how you work and when you work. You have your destiny in your own hands.

3. You Earn More

Jobs can’t pay you what you’re worth no matter how well and how much you work. The salary is fixed and that’s it. Yes, your salary can be raised but it can’t be compared to how much you’ll earn when you put in same effort into your business.

A freelancer can make in a week what an employee would make in a month. I know that there are risks involved but the benefits quite exceed the risk when you get it right.

4. It’s More Than Just Money

If it's all about the money, forget about it. The most successful business owners are rarely motivated solely by monetary gain. It’s about passion. Whether you are working as a freelancer or you’re building a brand, you have the liberty to engage in work you’re passionate about, which you can turn into a productive business.

5. Freedom Of Choice

Wouldn’t it be your dream to work wherever you like, whenever you like, however you like and with whom you like?
Of course, it is. Working as a freelancer gives you that freedom. You’re traveling around the world and you’re working.

C’mon, I’ll kill to have that kind of leverage, but guess what! You don’t have to. You can make the switch and enjoy the freedom to work the way you’ve always wanted to work.

6. Creativity at Its Peak

There’s nothing more annoying than being stifled. As a creative person I like to try new things and see how they work. I feel so proud when I see my creativity come to life.

When you have a brand or a business, you know that you have to be creative and there’s no one to limit you. The reverse is the case when you’re working as an employee. You have so many limitations and most of the time you’re afraid to take risks.

Except you’re working for a company that wants you to reach your potential then It’s going to be very boring and you won’t really grow.

7. You Get Self-Satisfaction

This is the cross and crown of it all. Before I went for my interview, I've always dreamt of working on my terms. Doing what I love. Owning a brand. But I was so afraid to take that route. Even now I’m still afraid but I do know that the rewards are great.

The real issue is that so many people have allowed fear to cripple them from taking that leap. They want to start a business, build a brand and make a difference, but they’re afraid it will fail. So they allow fear to condemn them to a life of mediocrity and they settle for what they can get. But the truth is it's a trip well worth taking. The lessons you learn and the pure sense of self-satisfaction outweigh any fleeting fears or failures.

So there you have it. 7 reasons why you are better Off being self-employed.
