DIY: Making a simple palm slipper

avatar

Good day, my fellow creative minds on the hive blockchain. It's a delight to be here in the elite do-it-yourself community, where varieties of art and craft are being showcased. Today I'll love to take you through a simple procedure for making palm slippers. In case you don't know, palm slippers are the kind of footwear worn around here in Nigeria, and they kind of ease movement because they're comfortable.

I made these palm slippers because a young boy approached me about being willing to learn how to make footwear after he saw me making some a few weeks ago, and thereafter I told him some of the materials he'll need to bring so I can show him how. When he brought them, even though they weren't enough and would have to be managed, I still used them to show him how they're made, and below are the DIY steps.

MATERIALS USED

  • BROWN LEATHER
  • BLACK LEATHER LINING
  • MACO SIZE 6
  • NORA
  • OCI GUM
  • SUPER GLUE
  • BRUSH
  • SCISSORS ...

MAKING PROCESSES

Like I said, the materials he brought weren't enough, so I even had to add some of the extra pieces I had left from other footwear I made for customers, and with that, I set out to work guiding him.

  • Since the leather weren't much, I had to think of a simple style and that's how what we've above came up, so I cut the leather into the appropriate simple shape and sizes equally.

  • After this, I pick from the extra black leather lining I'm having, to serve as the lining for the brown leather, it was cut in the exact shape as the brown leather and then joined together with the oci gum.

  • After that, I pick up the maco size 6 he bought, and cut it to the shape of his father's feet, because he said he's making it for his dad, so we cut the maco into the foot size 45, and then cut a black leather lining, apply gum on the maco and the lining, and finally wrap the lining around the maco.

  • Next line of action was using my scissors to cut a opening on the maco materials where the strap will be out through, after it was put through, I applied gum at the back, so it can be attached to the maco, I also Check the shape and perfection with the wooden shoe last.

  • The last piece of action was to show him how a footwear is being last, and that involves applying gum and super glue on the Nora for the sole and the maco for the insole, and after that, both were joined together to complete the palm making steps.

That's was how I guided the boy on the basis steps in making a simple palms slippers, I hope you've also learnt from it! Below is the outcome of the palm slippers made for the boys father.
