Food items shopping at the market despite the inflation

avatar

Good day, hivers! It's a wonderful Friday evening, and today I'll be sharing my market experience and the items I purchased during my last visit to the market with you. It's a hard time presently because the advent of the fuel subsidy removal has led to an increase in all items in the market, but regardless of the increase, good is a necessity, so we must get it.

I'm not really the type of person who's bold enough to bring out the camera each time I visit the market, sometimes because I feel the marketers might not like it or just because I'm shy, but I still do it once in awhile. This time around, I couldn't do it because I didn't feel like it and another because the sun was shining hard, but I still took some photos of the items when I arrived home.

Before leaving for the market, I already had a list of items I wanted to purchase, and this was done so I wouldn't get distracted or attracted to other goods I might like but aren't on my agenda. Another reason is to stay within budget and not overspend, so on arriving at the market, I went straight to the various stores where the items I wanted to purchase are located.

Here are some of the items I purchased and their costs: the plantain cost ₦800 naira, while the egg crate cost a whopping 3000 Naira, compared to the ₦2200 I brought it for a few months ago. I also brought a liter of mamador oil, which cost ₦1000 naira, which also has an increase of ₦200 naira compared to the amount it was last purchased for.

Also, a kilo of turkey I purchased at about 2500 naira a few weeks ago now costs 3500 naira per kilo, and as the price of a kilo of Titus fish increases from 2200 naira to 2500 naira, it's still a bit decent even though it's much, and our hopes were that things would reduce in price rather than increase.

That's all on my Market experience from my last visit. I'll like to thank @dswigle for the great job she's doing in the Market Friday community, which has been an avenue to see into other People's culture, tradition, and market experience.

Thanks for your time, stay bless.

I can understand you perfectly, in my country there is also high inflation. Although we currently use the US dollar as our currency, because our currency is not sustainable, even so the products tend to increase in US dollars.

Wow! Talk about inflation! Yikes. I am in awe at the price of everything, it seems nothing is exempt! The prices of things have made me become a little bit more creative with my food, trying to make different recipes with more affordable ingredients.

I love plantains, but, they are more here for sure. The eggs are the biggest surprise. Yours have gone up so much, I cannot believe it. While your poultry remains really high, ours has gone down. Eggs too. However, yours are still a lot cheaper than ours are and they are probably much better, nutritiously. I live near the water, so someone in the family does most of the fishing/seafood and so we don't have to pay anything for that. Just the fishing license once a year, which isn't much money.

I am not sure they can go up anymore on things, but, I must commend you on your sticking to the list. That is probably one of the worst habits, going to the store by the seat of your pants. Overspending and coming home with things you don't need.

I really hope you are doing well and you feel like this is the best move you could have done. There seems to be a migration of sorts with many leaving their homes for the bigger cities/towns where the opportunities seem better. The best would be to hear that you are indeed happy. :)

Thanks for sharing your shopping and a piece of your life with us!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Yea it's height the inflation is going is becoming increasingly unpleasant, but like you said, looking into cutting costs and trying out other recipe that would reduce amount spend is a wonderful strategy to survive in this period.

It's funny how prices of eggs increases, I and my friends once joke about if the hens now go through CS to lay eggs and probably that's why the price increase.

Oh you guys are lucky with the season food, although it's something we can do freely here without paying a dime for license, unfortunately not everyone is bold enough to go fishing.(I for example has a phobia for a large body of water).

Thanks so much for your kind words, care and concern, I'm doing pretty well and trying my hands with other things to ease comfortability.

It's always a wonderful time here in the market Friday community, I love #MarketFriday.
