Saving Crypto Mishaps: How I Recovered Hive Assets Sent to the Wrong Memo and How You Can Too

Many of us have, at one point in time or another, made the mistake of sending crypto assets such as hive to the wrong memo, and without proper knowledge of how to recover such funds, the fund would be gone forever, just like others who had made one mistake or another. In the past, I did the same while trying to help one of my friends exchange hives for fiat. It happened that I sent the fund to the wrong memo, but fortunately, after contacting a friend, I was able to put some things in place that would go on to help me recover the hive.

It happened that I was dizzy when the person called me about needing fiat urgently, and in my bid to help her do the transaction in my sleepy state, I mistakenly included the wrong memo while trying to send hive to my Binance. The sleep instantly disappeared from my face immediately I noticed the mistake, so I ran to my boss @burlarj DM on Discord to seek help on how to recover the funds, and after following his guidance, the hive was refunded back to my hive wallet within 13 hours from when the mistake was made.

In order to help anyone who might fall victim of such in the near future, I've decided to make use of this post as a medium via which you can learn to recover your hive assets sent to the wrong account or memo, and the step-by-step process of how I recovered mine is listed below.

  • After noticing the mistake, the first thing I did was login to my Binance account and stroll to the help and support segment. Under it, I chose the FAQ option. I chose that as well and selected the Need Help? Check FAQ option, which led me to the next phrase.

  • In this next segment, there are many options to choose from depending on what aspects you need help with. For this particular purpose, I chose the "crypto deposit not credited" option, which also led to another phrase.

  • The next phrase is aimed at knowing the actual reason why you're there to complain; since I'm there for the purpose of sending a wrong memo, I chose the forgot or fill in wrong memo/tag option among the others listed as possible options.

  • Choose the submit appeal option, and it'll lead you to a page where you can fill in details of your transaction that'll easily help Binance retract your crypto assets back to your wallet. The details you'll have to fill in include the name of the token sent, the actual amount you sent, and the TxID/TxHash of the transaction, which can easily be found via hiveblocks.

  • Once all the correct information has been included, click on Submit, and it'll show you a chart that indicates the status of the request. That'll help you monitor the progress of your appeal. I was told it could take 3 workdays plus days to get it done, but fortunately for me, it only took 13 hours, and I'm excited about it.

That's about all there is to know about how to recover your hive assets sent to the wrong memo. I hope this comes in handy for someone. I'm glad this aspect of the blockchain exists, and it'll sure help curb the idea of forfeiting our assets that are mistakenly sent to the wrong account. Of course, one still needs to be careful, but this is top-notch regardless.

Thanks so much for your time. Stay blessed.

In the past means 2 years ago I lost approximately 4 HBD because I sent HBD directly to the withdraw wallet address and I lost the fund forever. See this post It made me remember about my past incident.
