The Injury That Changes My Perspective About Life

avatar

Injuries can come in any form and one of the things that it ushers in is pain, another major trademark of it, is the scars it left behind, which doesn't necessarily need to be visible nor obvious, but each time we see or remember such scars, it most times literally reminds us of how we ended up with such.

There were some point in my life, when I got injured due to one reasons or another, some were because of my playfulness, others because of my good deals and some were just accidental, but the common things between everyone of it was that I felt pain and I also learn a lesson which stood as a guide that direct how I engage on other stuffs generally.

Below I share my experience on how I once got injured, what lead to it and the lessons I learnt from it.

Few years ago, I use to work as a supervisor in a factory, and being the leader of a group of people who were given a daily target that most be met, isn't an easy task at all, one of which is because it's easier to direct 100 cattles, than to successfully direct two humans without them grumbling or so.

Aside that, number two reasons is because the company were not willing to employ the adequate amount of workers needed for the work to move perfect, and thirdly, there were lack of maintenance for machine used in producing the product and yet they always put the blame on me as a supervisor whenever we didn't meet the daily target.

This lead me into, sometimes going beyond the line of my duty, by working on the machines, just so that everything will work perfectly and in the end we'll meet up with the daily target, but unfortunately for me, during one of those days while working on the machine, someone mistakenly switch it on and it drag my finger inside the machine, I kept on struggling with the machine till I was able to remove my hand before it got crushed by the machine.

But that wasn't after it almost completely twisted my index finger to the back, the pain was so terrible that I had to visit the organisation medical center for treatment, and by the time I came back, instead of the manager to console me or say some compassionate words, instead he ask me, that who told me to do such work, and that why did I went beyond my duty of guiding and directing the staffs into working on the machine.

I felt really bad that day, I apologize and left his office, and every since then I made a vow never to go out of my comfort zone just to make sure the daily target is met, and instead of situations when machines were down and I started fixing it, I just tell such operator to go find something else doing until such machine is been fix by them.

It was a painful experience, because I had to do without my right hand for over two months, before it gradually heal and came back to normal, I was really lucky because such scenario as happened to others and they ended up losing all the fingers.

I learn a lesson that the organisation are only after the results they get and are less concern about the situation their staffs were in, and after some time I tender my resignation letter, though they pleaded with me, that I shouldn't leave, to the point where they promise to double my salary, from 70k to 140k, but I knew better from my experience, so I ran for my dare life.

Thanks so much for staying with me this far, these write-up was prompted by the @hive-learners Community feature topic, slid into the community and read full details and as well share your experiences with us.

I totally get your point, I was afraid to worker too, so when you say you have for your life lol I understand...

You where indeed very very lucky, that machine could have cut off your hand or finger, which the company will not even give much attention because what they after is their profit not their loss if you get injured, the only thing they'll be looking for is a replacement..

That's exactly the point, they profit is their major concern, I'm not saying it's bad but at least care about those working to make you get those profit.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

If you worked with indians, you'll understand what I'm talking about, they don't care about human lives, we are useless to them, we are beggers to them, and so if any mistake, they can look for a replacement...

(Edited)

It's not really about the country, it's about the individual, I've worked with Indians with good heart, who treated me like a brother and I've worked with my fellow countrymen who treat me like I'm nothing.

So everything is down to personality.

Smile it looks unreasonable to run away from such amount, most especially when there is no job waiting for me as at when I'm leaving, but at knew what I was going through, and I knew the kind of Extra demand they'll place on me once that double salary comes.

Most organizations do not really care about the well-being of their employees, but about what they can do for them. I am glad what happened to you did not get any worse.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
