I should clarify that I was never a fan of the fantasy genre before; however, Harry Potter books have always been in my home since my daughters are huge fans of the franchise. Furthermore, long, tedious afternoons spent enduring power outages have driven me to broaden my literary horizons and read all kinds of stories—which is what led me, in this instance, into the magical world.

Debo aclarar que yo nunca antes fui fan de este género fantasía, pero los libros de Harry Potter han estado desde siempre en mi casa en vista de que mis hija son grandes fanáticas de la franquicia, y por otra parte las largas tardes de tedio en las cuales debo soportar la falta de energía eléctrica me han orillado a ser más abierto en el mundo literario, leyendo todo tipo de historias, lo cuál me condujo en esta ocasión al mundo mágico.

It all begins with the death of the Potters—Harry's parents. A dark wizard named Lord Voldemort—whose name everyone feared to speak—arrived at the Potter family home and murdered the parents; however, when it came time to kill the baby, the wizard disintegrated for some reason. A wizard named Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts School, took the boy to live with his aunt and uncle, the Dursleys. There, he was mistreated and forced to live in the cupboard under the stairs, living the life of a "Muggle" (the term used for people without magic). Harry did not know he was a wizard until he turned eleven and received his acceptance letter to the school of magic; from that moment on, he began his adventure in the wizarding world, discovering things he had not known about his life and the world around him.

Todo empieza con la muerte de los Potter, es decir, los padres de Harry, un mago tenebroso llamado Lord Voldemort, pero a quien todos temían nombrar, llegó a casa de la familia Potter y asesinó a los padres pero cuando fue el turno del bebé, por alguna razón el mago se desintegró. Un mago llamado Dumbledore, quien es director del colegio Hogwarts, llevó al niño a vivir con sus tíos, los Dursley, pero allí él era maltratado y obligado a vivir en la alacena debajo de la escalera, incluso vivió como un muggle (es así como llaman a las personas sin magia) Harry no supo que era un mago hasta que cumplió once años y recibió su carta de aceptación al colegio de magia, a partir de ese momento el niño comenzó su aventura por el mundo mágico, descubriendo cosas que no sabía de su vida y de su entorno.

To be honest, the book really surprised me because it has a well-paced plot and never gets boring; in fact, what surprised me most is that, despite being a fantasy novel, it takes itself very seriously. How so? Well, the author built a world as complex and nuanced as the one we live in. This magical world has its own structure—political and economic systems, laws, animals, languages, creatures, and beings of all kinds—and even its own history, which is closely linked to Muggles, particularly prior to the establishment of the International Statute of Secrecy, which forbids the revelation of their magical nature.

La verdad es que el libro me sorprendió bastante porque tiene una trama son un buen ritmo, no resulta aburrido y de hecho lo que más me sorprendió, es que a pesar de ser un libro sobre fantasía se toma muy enserio a sí mismo ¿de qué manera? Pues la autora construyó un mundo tan complejo y lleno de matices como el mundo en el que vivimos, el mundo mágico tiene su propia estructura: sistema político y económico, leyes, animales, idiomas, criaturas y seres de todo tipo, incluso su propia historia, la cuál guarda mucha relación con los muggles, en especial antes de la creación del Estatuto Internacional del Secreto, el cuál les impide rebelar su condición mágica.

The characters are very diverse and deeply human, each with their own complexities. Some seem to exist solely to complicate the protagonist's life, though I gather there is a reason for everything within that ecosystem (I can't quite piece it all together yet, as I'm only on the first book). I appreciate that variety of perspectives among the characters, and I also like the way the protagonist reacts; it makes him feel more real and human. He isn't a perfect being—quite the opposite—he has the kind of flaws that make him more relatable to who we truly are.

Los personajes son muy diversos y muy humanos también, cada uno con sus propias complejidades, algunos parece que están para complicar la vida del protagonista y ya, pero según tengo entendido todo tiene una razón de ser en ese ecosistema (aún no puedo deducirlo porque solo estoy en el primer libro) pero me gusta esa variación de ideas en los personajes, la manera de reaccionar del protagonista también me gusta, siento que lo hace más real y humano, no es un ser perfecto, al contrario, tiene esas grietas que lo vuelven más cercano a lo que somos realmente.

I feel this book promotes resilience, loyalty, and the best human values; above all, it acknowledges that we possess a highly valuable power—the power of choice—and that this power ultimately guides our lives. It is precisely in this context that one of the most important characters, Albus Dumbledore, comes to the fore; he acts as an anchor and moral guide for Harry, showing him that his own decisions led him to where he is. In fact, his first decision was about friendship—rejecting the offer from Malfoy (whom he had met in Diagon Alley while buying his school robes) in favor of Ron Weasley, with whom he felt a greater connection—and he also refused to be in Slytherin, preferring the house where he felt most at ease. In short, it all comes down to choices.

Siento que es un libro que promueve la resiliencia, lealtad y los mejores valores humanos, donde por encima de todo se reconoce que tenemos un poder muy valioso, el de la elección, y es este poder el que finalmente guiará nuestras vidas. Precisamente basado en esto que acabo de mencionar sale a relucir uno de los personajes más importantes, Albus Dumbledore, quién actúa como ancla y guía moral de Harry, es él quién le muestra que fueron sus decisiones las que lo llevaron a donde está, de hecho la primera decisión que tomó fue sobre la amistad, (rechazó la amistad de Malfoy a quién ya conoció en el callejón Diagon cuando estaba comprando su túnica del colegio) para aceptar la de Ron Weasley porque se sentía más identificado con él, rechazó estar en Slytherin porque prefirió la casa donde se sentía más cómodo, es decir, que todo va de decisiones.

I hope to continue with the rest of the books in the series; I’m already reading the second one, and honestly, it continues to pleasantly surprise me. Thanks for letting me share my opinions with you.
